ZWO OAG-L - Overview

The ZWO OAG-L is an advanced off-axis guider designed to enhance your astrophotography by providing a large prism size of 12*12mm, significantly larger than that of the M68 OAG. This larger clear aperture increases the field of view during guiding, making it ideal for users focused on long focal length photography. It is easy to use and highly recommended for pairing with large format guiding cameras for optimal performance.

Large Prism Size and Wide Field of View

The OAG-L features a large 12*12mm prism that provides a broader field of view for guiding compared to traditional off-axis guiders.

The effective light-passing aperture measures 11.7mm*8.3mm.

Versatile and Easy to Use

The OAG-L can connect both the main camera and guide camera simultaneously, eliminating the need for a separate guide telescope.

It is lightweight and compact with a thickness of just 17.5mm.

Comes packaged with an M48 sensor tilt plate (5mm) to help with precise alignment.

Wide Compatibility with Cameras

Best suited for ASI Mini cameras like the ASI174MM Mini, ASI290MM Mini, and ASI120MM Mini for guiding.

Recommended for use with 2” EFW or 7x36mm EFW, and can support both APS-C cameras (e.g., ASI2600) and full-frame cameras (e.g., ASI6200/2400) without vignetting.

Compatible with telescopes that have an M48 thread.

Simplified Adjustment and Setup

Directly connects to other equipment using screws, eliminating the need for inner threads.

Easily adjustable focus for the guiding camera, ensuring a consistent and accurate guiding setup.

Guiding Compatibility

The OAG-L is designed to work with ASI Mini cameras for guiding.

It is not recommended for use with telescopes whose clear aperture is smaller than M48.

Field of View and Camera Compatibility

The OAG-L can support large format full-frame cameras like the ASI6200 and ASI2400, thanks to its large clear aperture.

The absence of vignetting makes it ideal for full-frame cameras when used with an EFW or filter wheel.
Adjustment of the Prism Position

To adjust the prism position, follow these steps:
1. Use an M2 hex wrench to loosen the M4 screw on the sensor tilt plate.
2. Pinch the prism on both sides and adjust it to the desired position.
3. Re-tighten the M4 screw to secure the prism in place.
Important Notes for Use

While integrating the OAG-L into your optical train, ensure that the prism does not block the camera sensor.

Use the guiding screw to adjust the focus length of the guiding camera, ensuring the distances from the prism to both the main and guiding cameras are consistent.

It is recommended to perform these adjustments during the day to avoid difficulties during night-time setups.

Additional Notes

If your telescope side has an M48 thread, there is no need to remove the M48 sensor tilt plate included with the OAG-L. If your telescope requires a different thread, you will need to replace the M48 tilt plate with the appropriate one.

Always check that the prism is aligned correctly to avoid obstruction of the camera sensor, ensuring optimal guiding performance.
