Its integrated active repeater chipset ensures that the USB 3.1 Gen 1 signal integrity is maintained from the USB Type-C male connector to the USB Type-A female port, preventing the dropouts and speed degradation common with passive long-distance cables.

5 Meters of Active Signal Extension: Maintain Full USB 3.1 Gen 1 Speed

Standard passive USB cables begin to lose signal integrity beyond 3 meters, resulting in connection drops and reduced transfer rates, fatal flaws during an imaging session. This 5.0-meter cable incorporates an active signal repeater that regenerates the USB 3.1 Gen 1 data stream, ensuring your camera receives the stable connection and power it needs to run at its maximum frame rate without interruption.

USB-C to USB-A: Connect Modern Cameras to Standard Ports

Many new astronomy cameras and accessories feature a USB Type-C port, while most control computers and hubs still rely on the traditional USB Type-A standard. This cable provides the essential physical adaptation, allowing you to connect a USB-C device directly to a standard USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A port on a laptop, observatory PC, or powerbox without needing a separate, failure-prone adapter.

What does an "active" USB 3.1 cable do for my astronomy setup?

An active USB cable, like this 5.0-meter model, contains a built-in repeater circuit. This chipset boosts the data signal, allowing it to travel over much longer distances than a standard passive cable without losing speed or stability. For astronomy, this means you can place your control computer in a protected area away from your telescope while maintaining a reliable, high-speed connection to your camera for downloading large files or high-frame-rate planetary video.

Can I use this 5.0 m Active USB 3.1 Extension Cable to connect my new USB-C camera to my older laptop with USB-A ports?

Yes, absolutely. This cable is specifically designed for that scenario. The USB Type-C male end connects to your modern camera or accessory, and the USB Type-A female end allows you to plug in a standard USB-A cable running from your laptop or hub, bridging the 5.0-meter distance with a stable, repeated signal.

Will this USB 3.1 Gen 1 cable work with my USB 2.0 devices?

Yes, the USB 3.1 Gen 1 standard is backward-compatible with USB 2.0. While you will be limited to USB 2.0 speeds, the active repeater will still ensure a stable connection over the full 5.0-meter length, which is beneficial for guide cameras or filter wheels that may not require high speed but demand a reliable connection.

Is the 5.0-meter length of this Active USB 3.1 Extension Cable reliable for high-frame-rate planetary imaging?

Yes. High-frame-rate imaging is precisely where an active cable excels.
