Camera Sensor

Back-illuminated CMOS Image Sensor with 14bit ADC. ASI178MM has a 1/1.8″ and 6.4M pixels sensor IMX178 with SONY STARVIS and Exmor R Technology.

Astrophotography Performance

Extremely low read noise(1.4e-2.2 e) , 1.4e @27db, high sensitivity and 14bit ADC make it very suitable for astronomy and microscopy high resolution photograph.

Gives a very lovely rendering of the H-alpha sun at the prime focus of my f/16 refractor. All aspects of the chromospheric " surface" come through in enhanced contrast relative to my eyes - special treat, or rather, an alternative treat to direct observation. With some minor gain adjustment, the prominences come through rather well too [ all with the basic DayStar "chromosphere" type filter]. All stuff that used to take hours of darkroom work for me in 1986!
best regards DKB
