The ZWO ASI2600MC-DUO integrates a 26.4 MP Sony imaging sensor with a dedicated 1920x1080 SC2210 guide sensor into a single 90 mm diameter body. Its main APS-C sensor features 3.76µm pixels, 16-bit native depth, and a peak Quantum Efficiency of 80% for capturing faint detail. Data integrity is maintained by a 512MB DDR3 buffer, while the camera delivers a full-resolution frame rate of 15 FPS.
The core innovation of the ASI2600MC-DUO is its built-in guide camera, which features a sensitive SC2210 sensor with 4µm pixels. This two-in-one design eliminates the need for a separate guide scope and guide camera, reducing total payload weight, cable complexity, and the potential for differential flexure between two separate optical tubes. Because the guide sensor sits next to the main imaging sensor, you are guiding through the exact same light cone, providing immediate and precise tracking corrections without an off-axis guider.
At the heart of the camera is Sony's back-illuminated IMX571 APS-C sensor, delivering a massive 6280 x 4210 resolution. The 3.76µm pixels are small enough to resolve fine detail on galaxies and planetary nebulae, while the sensor's 80% peak QE and ultra-low 0.9e-4.2e read noise ensure that faint signal is captured cleanly. This combination of high resolution and low noise makes the ASI2600MC-DUO a formidable tool for capturing deep-sky objects in high fidelity.
With a native 16-bit ADC, the ASI2600MC-DUO captures 65,536 levels of brightness, producing smooth tonal gradations in nebulae and galaxy arms. This is complemented by a dual-capacity full well, offering a standard 50Ke depth or an extended +73Ke mode. The extended mode allows you to take longer sub-exposures in star-rich fields, capturing faint nebulosity without saturating the cores of bright stars like those in the Trapezium of the Orion Nebula (M42).
The ASI2600MC-DUO builds on the legacy of the highly successful ASI2600MC Pro. While both cameras share the same excellent Sony IMX571 imaging sensor, the DUO model introduces several key advantages for the astrophotographer seeking a more integrated system.
Long-exposure astrophotography is free from artifacts thanks to ZWO's zero amplifier glow circuitry, which completely eliminates the typical glow seen in the corners of uncorrected CMOS images. An onboard 512MB DDR3 memory buffer ensures stable, drop-free data transfer to your computer, even at the maximum 15 FPS frame rate. An integrated anti-dew heater with a 5W power draw protects the sensor window from moisture, ensuring clear images through a long night of observing.
By integrating the imaging and guide sensors into one body, the ASI2600MC-DUO eliminates the need for a separate guide camera, guide scope, and the associated mounting hardware and cables. This reduces the overall weight on your mount, simplifies cable management, and removes a potential source of tracking error known as differential flexure.
Due to the large 28.3mm diagonal of the main sensor plus the adjacent guide sensor, the camera requires a large, well-corrected image circle to illuminate both chips without significant vignetting. Many 8" and smaller SCTs, especially when used with a reducer, may not provide a large enough corrected field. This can darken the guide sensor, making it difficult to find guide stars. A larger telescope with a well-corrected field is recommended for optimal results.
The SC2210 is a highly sensitive monochrome CMOS sensor with 4µm pixels and very low read noise. Its position next to the main IMX571 sensor means it functions like a built-in, large-chip off-axis guider (OAG). This allows for very precise guiding using the same light path as your main imaging, which is superior to using a separate guide scope.
No. The camera is engineered with circuitry that provides Zero Amplifier Glow. Unlike many CMOS sensors that exhibit a bright glow in the corners of long exposures, the ASI2600MC-DUO produces clean frames that do not require complex calibration to remove this artifact.
No. The integrated SC2210 guide sensor serves the function of an OAG. It picks off light from the edge of your telescope's corrected field of view to guide the mount, making a separate OAG unnecessary and further simplifying your imaging train.
For a long imaging session on a large target like M31, you must power the two-stage TEC cooling. The camera requires a 12V power supply with a peak current of 3A. A stable power source is crucial to maintain consistent sensor temperature and low noise throughout the night. The USB connection alone does not power the cooler.
