- Functions as an All-Sky Camera Lens
- Standard CS-Mount Thread
The ZWO 2.1mm CS-mount lens transforms your planetary camera into a dedicated all-sky monitoring tool, capturing a vast 150° field of view in a single frame. This lens is specifically designed for ZWO cameras equipped with a 1/3" sensor, such as the ASI120 or ASI224MC, providing edge-to-edge coverage for meteor detection and weather surveillance.
With a short 2.1mm focal length, this lens achieves an extremely wide 150° field of view. This allows you to capture the majority of the night sky at once, making it the ideal choice for recording meteor showers, tracking satellite passes, or monitoring cloud cover throughout the night without a tracking mount. The sky becomes a dynamic canvas rather than a static target.
This lens is engineered to perfectly match the image circle of 1/3" format sensors. This ensures the entire sensor is illuminated without significant vignetting or wasted field, a common issue when pairing lenses with mismatched sensors. It is a direct-fit solution for popular models like the ZWO ASI120MM-S, ASI120MC-S, and ASI224MC, turning them into powerful scientific and surveillance instruments.
The lens uses a standard CS-mount thread for direct connection to compatible camera bodies. Note that a C/CS mount adapter is not included with this lens. To achieve proper focus, you will need the CS-mount adapter that was originally supplied with your ZWO camera, or purchase one separately if you are using a C-mount native camera.
The ultra-wide 150° field of view is ideal for capturing large-scale celestial phenomena. You can record entire meteor showers like the Perseids or Geminids, track the paths of bright fireballs, monitor for transient events like aurora, or simply create time-lapses of the Milky Way rising and setting.
This lens is designed for cameras with a 1/3" sensor. The most common and recommended pairings are the ZWO ASI120 series (both monochrome and color) and the ASI224MC. Using it on a larger sensor will result in heavy vignetting and an incomplete image circle.
Focus is achieved manually by turning the lens barrel. For astronomical use, it's best to focus at night on a bright star. Once sharp focus is achieved across the field, you can use the locking screw on the lens to fix its position for long-term, unattended operation.
No, a tracking mount is not necessary. In fact, this lens is designed for static use on a fixed tripod. The 150° field of view is so wide that stars will take hours to drift across the frame, which is perfect for creating all-sky time-lapses and monitoring the sky from a fixed position.
For most all-sky applications like meteor showers (e.g., the Orionids), you do not need any filters. You want to capture as much light as possible. If you are in a light-polluted area, a simple IR-cut filter might help improve contrast slightly, especially with a color camera like the ASI224MC, but it is not a requirement.
This is a CS-mount lens. It will screw directly into a camera that has female CS-mount threads. If your camera has C-mount threads, you will need a C-to-CS adapter ring (typically 5mm thick). Most ZWO cameras that this lens is designed for, like the ASI120, come with the necessary adapters, but the lens itself does not include one.
