  • ZWO ASIAIR Mini Astronomy WiFi Smart Device

The ZWO ASIAIR Mini integrates your entire astrophotography setup into a single, compact wireless controller with four 12V DC outputs and four USB 2.0 ports for your essential gear. Its internal 32 GB eMMC storage offers 20 GB of free space for your images, while the entire unit comes with a comprehensive 2-year warranty.

Streamlined Control: 42% Smaller, 21% Lighter

For the ultimate grab-and-go imaging rig, the ASIAIR Mini reduces the form factor significantly without gutting the core functionality. At 42% smaller and 21% lighter than the ASIAIR Plus, it consumes less of your mount's payload capacity and simplifies cable management. This size reduction makes it the definitive choice for portable wide-field setups on trackers or small equatorial mounts where every ounce matters.

Integrated Hub with 4 USB 2.0 Ports

The ASIAIR Mini acts as the central nervous system for your telescope, connecting your hardware through its array of ports. It includes four USB 2.0 ports to manage your main camera, guide camera, electronic focuser (EAF), and filter wheel (EFW) simultaneously. The four 12V DC outputs power this equipment and can also run dew heaters, keeping your setup clean and powered from a single source.

    • USB 2.0 Trade-off: The use of USB 2.0 ports keeps the device compact and power-efficient but limits download speeds for cameras with very high resolution sensors compared to a USB 3.0 connection. For most planetary and deep-sky cameras, this has a negligible impact on capture performance.
    • DSLR Control: A dedicated SNAP port provides shutter control for a wide range of DSLR and mirrorless cameras, integrating them fully into the ASIAIR ecosystem.

ZWO ASIAIR Mini vs. ASIAIR Plus

Choosing between the ASIAIR Mini and its larger sibling, the ASIAIR Plus, comes down to portability needs and specific hardware requirements.

    • ASIAIR Plus Advantage: The Plus features USB 3.0 ports for faster full-frame downloads and a dedicated gigabit Ethernet port. It also has higher capacity eMMC storage options and no resolution limit for its live stacking feature.
    • ASIAIR Mini Advantage: The Mini's primary strength is its size and weight, being 42% smaller and 21% lighter. It is the ideal controller for lightweight travel rigs, camera tracker setups, or imagers whose cameras do not require the high bandwidth of USB 3.0. While its live stacking is capped at 26 MP, this is sufficient for the vast majority of dedicated astronomy cameras on the market.

Onboard Automation with 32 GB Storage

The ASIAIR Mini eliminates the need for a laptop at the telescope. From your tablet or phone, you can control polar alignment, GoTo slewing, plate solving, focusing, and fully automated imaging sequences. With 20 GB of usable space on its 32 GB eMMC drive and read speeds of 119 Mb/s, it stores your night's data reliably until you can transfer it for processing.

  • What are the main differences between the ASIAIR Mini and the ASIAIR Plus?

The ASIAIR Mini is 42% smaller and 21% lighter, uses four USB 2.0 ports, and has a 26 MP resolution limit for its live stacking feature. The ASIAIR Plus is larger, features faster USB 3.0 ports, has no live stacking limit, and includes an Ethernet port.

Can the ASIAIR Mini handle my ZWO ASI2600MC Pro camera for live stacking?

No, the ZWO ASI2600MC Pro has a resolution of 26.1 megapixels, which is just above the ASIAIR Mini's 26 MP limit for live stacking. You can still perform all other imaging functions like single-frame capture, autorun sequences, and video, but the live stacking feature will be disabled for that specific camera.

Do I need a laptop at the telescope with the ASIAIR Mini?

No. The ASIAIR Mini completely replaces a field laptop for image acquisition. All functions—including polar alignment, focusing, guiding, and sequencing—are controlled wirelessly from the ASIAIR app on your smartphone or tablet.

Is the 20 GB of free storage on the ASIAIR Mini enough for a night of imaging?

For most cameras, yes. 20 GB is enough to hold hundreds of FITS files from typical deep-sky cameras. For example, a 16-megapixel camera like the ASI1600MM Pro produces 32 MB files, meaning you could store over 600 images. You can also plug in a USB flash drive to expand storage if needed.

What power supply do I need for the ZWO ASIAIR Mini?

The ASIAIR Mini requires a 12V DC power source capable of delivering at least 2A, though 5A is recommended to comfortably power the Mini and any connected devices like cameras or dew heaters. The input port is a standard 5.5mm x 2.1mm center-positive connector.

How reliable is the ASIAIR Mini's WiFi connection in the field?

The external antenna provides a robust dual-band (2.4GHz and 5GHz) WiFi signal. The range is typically sufficient to control your telescope from a nearby car or room in your house. For maximum stability, keeping a clear line of sight to the antenna and selecting the 5GHz band in less crowded areas will yield the best results.
