Astrophotography Contest

Get ready to capture the magic of the night sky! This August, join our Shooting Stars Photography Contest, showcase your talent and try to capture the best shooting stars to get a chance to win a David Astro CA$25 gift card!

How to Participate

Grab your camera and head outdoors during the contest period (June 1st 2024 to July 31st 2024) to capture some shooting stars! Click on the WeTransfer button below to submit your entry, which must contain the following:

  1. Your astrophotograph in .jpg or .png format without excessive compression, as files up to 2GB are accepted for the contest.
  2. The following information in the description of your submission.
  • Your name and location
  • Equipment used
  • Date of capture
  • Processing software used

Detailed Contest Rules

Eligibility:

  1. The skill-based photography contest (hereafter referred to as "the Contest") is open to all legal residents of Canada who are at least 18 years of age at the time of entry.
  2. Employees of the contest organizers, their immediate family members, and persons living in the same household are not eligible to participate.
  3. Participation in the Contest constitutes entrant's full and unconditional agreement to these Official Rules and the decisions of the judges, which are final and binding in all matters related to the Contest.

Contest Period:

  1. The Contest begins on August 1st at 12:00 a.m. Eastern Time ("ET") and ends on August 31st at 11:59 p.m. ET (the "Contest Period").
  2. Entries submitted before or after the Contest Period will not be eligible.

How to Enter:

  1. During the Contest Period, eligible participants may enter the Contest by submitting a photograph (the "Entry") via the official submission form on the Contest website.
  2. Each entrant may submit only one Entry.
  3. Entries must be in digital format and in accordance with the technical specifications provided on the Contest website.
  4. Entrants must also provide a title and a description for their Entry.
  5. All Entries must be the original work of the entrant and must not infringe upon the copyrights, trademarks, or any other intellectual property rights of any third party.
  6. All Entries must be relevant to the imposed theme.
  7. All images must be captured in Canada.
  8. All images must be captured and processed during the contest period. 
  9. By submitting an Entry, the entrant grants the contest organizers the right to use, modify, reproduce, and distribute the Entry for promotional purposes without compensation.

Judging Criteria:

  1. Entries will be judged based on the following criteria:
    • Composition/Framing
    • Overall sharpness
    • Noise reduction
    • Color balance and saturation
    • Contrast and depth
  2. The judging panel will consist of 2 judges.
  3. The decisions of the judges are final and binding on all matters relating to the Contest.

Prize:

  1. The prize for the Contest is a 25CA$ gift card usable on davidastro.com.
  2. Prize is non-transferable and no substitution will be made except as provided herein at the contest organizers' sole discretion.
  3. Winner is solely responsible for all taxes and fees associated with prize receipt and/or use.

Winner Notification:

  1. Winners will be notified via email within 7 days following the judging date.
  2. Winners may be required to sign and return an Affidavit of Eligibility and Liability/Publicity Release within a specified time period.

Publicity:

  1. By participating in the Contest, entrants consent to the use of their name, likeness, and Entry for promotional purposes without additional compensation, except where prohibited by law.

General Conditions:

  1. The contest organizers reserve the right to cancel, suspend, or modify the Contest if any fraud, technical failures, or any other factor beyond their reasonable control impairs the integrity of the Contest.
  2. The contest will be cancelled if 3x entries or less are submitted.
  3. The contest organizers reserve the right to disqualify any entrant found to be tampering with the entry process or the operation of the Contest.
  4. By participating in the Contest, entrants agree to release and hold harmless the contest organizers from any and all claims, damages, or liabilities arising from or relating to their participation in the Contest or their acceptance, use, or misuse of any prize.

Governing Law:

  1. The Contest is governed by the laws of Canada and the province or territory in which the entrant resides, without regard to its conflict of law principles.

    By participating in the Contest, entrants agree to abide by these Official Rules and the decisions of the contest organizers, which are final and binding in all respects.
