How does the Baader Sliding T-2 Focuser help with my off-axis guider (OAG)?

An OAG requires the guide camera to be perfectly parfocal with the main imaging camera. The Baader Sliding T-2 Focuser allows you to make fine adjustments to the guide camera's position to achieve this critical focus alignment. Once set, you can lock it down securely.

Can I use the Baader Sliding Focuser to set the 55mm back focus for my DSLR and coma corrector?

Yes. This is an excellent application for this component. You can use the Baader Sliding Focuser in your T-2 train to fine-tune the total distance to the required 55mm, ensuring your coma corrector delivers the best possible performance across the entire sensor of your camera.

What is the advantage of the Baader Sliding Focuser over a helical focuser?

A sliding focuser generally offers a more straightforward and compact design for setting a specific distance and locking it. Helical focusers provide more precise, repeatable focus adjustments via a rotating collar, but can be larger and more complex. For "set-and-forget" applications like initial guide camera focusing or setting back focus, the sliding focuser is often a more direct solution.

Will the locking mechanism on the Baader Sliding Focuser introduce tilt?

The Baader T-2 system is designed with tight tolerances to minimize tilt. When the locking ring is tightened evenly, it is engineered to hold the focuser's position without introducing any significant tilt into the optical path, maintaining the alignment of your imaging components.

What threads does the Baader Sliding T-2 Focuser use?

This focuser is part of the Baader Astro T-2 System and uses T-2 threads (M42x0.75) on both its male and female connections. This ensures full compatibility with a vast range of adapters, extension tubes, and accessories within that system.

Is this Baader focuser suitable for supporting a heavy imaging camera?

The Baader Sliding Focuser is primarily designed for lightweight accessories like guide cameras, eyepieces for guide ports, or as a spacing adjuster within a well-supported imaging train. While the locking mechanism is robust, for heavy, cantilevered loads, a more rigid connection like a fixed extension tube is recommended to eliminate any possibility of flexure.
