Why do I need the Explore Scientific 12V AC Power Supply for my EXOS-2GT mount?

This power supply provides a continuous, stable 12V power source from a standard wall outlet. It eliminates the cost and inconvenience of using D-cell batteries for home observing and prevents the voltage drop from draining batteries, which can cause poor GoTo and tracking performance.

Will this AC adapter improve the GoTo accuracy of my EXOS-2GT?

Yes, indirectly. As batteries drain, their voltage drops, which can cause the mount's motors to perform less precisely. By providing a constant 12V supply, this adapter ensures the motors and electronics operate at their specified voltage all night, leading to more reliable and consistent GoTo slewing and tracking.

Can I still use the 8 D-cell battery pack with my EXOS-2GT if I buy this adapter?

Absolutely. The AC power supply is an alternative to the battery pack, not a permanent modification. You can easily switch between the two, using the AC adapter at home and the battery pack when you travel to locations without power.

Is this 12V power supply compatible with other Explore Scientific mounts?

This power supply is specifically designed and recommended for the Explore Scientific EXOS-2GT Mount. Using it with other mounts is not recommended, as power requirements (like amperage and plug polarity) can vary. Always use the power supply specified for your particular mount model.

I'm planning a multi-hour imaging session of the Andromeda Galaxy (M31) from my backyard with my EXOS-2GT. Is this 12V power supply a better choice than batteries?

Yes, it is the ideal choice. For a long imaging session, you need uninterrupted power to ensure your mount tracks accurately for hours. The 12V AC supply guarantees your mount won't shut down or start tracking erratically due to dying batteries, protecting your valuable imaging time.

If I take my EXOS-2GT to a dark sky site with no power outlets, will this adapter be useful?

No, this adapter requires a standard AC wall socket to function. For field use at a dark sky site, the 8 D-cell battery pack or a portable 12V astronomy power tank is the correct solution to power your EXOS-2GT mount.
