What is the purpose of the Explore Scientific Finder Scope Base?

This base is designed to be attached to your telescope's optical tube, providing the correct mounting point to securely attach an Explore Scientific finder scope or reflex sight. It acts as the interface between the telescope and the finder's mounting bracket.

What are the dimensions of the Explore Scientific Finder Scope Base?

The base has a footprint of 50mm in length by 51mm in width and stands 25mm tall. It weighs a mere 1.4oz, adding negligible weight to your setup.

Is this base compatible with finder scopes from other brands?

This base is specifically designed for the mounting brackets used on Explore Scientific finder scopes. While it may fit some other finders that use a similar Vixen-style foot, compatibility is not guaranteed. It is always best to use the base designed for your specific finder scope brand to ensure a secure fit.

I have an Explore Scientific ED80 refractor. Will this base fit the pre-drilled holes?

Many Explore Scientific telescopes come with pre-drilled holes for a finder scope base. You should measure the hole spacing on your specific ED80 and compare it to the slot spacing on this base to confirm a direct fit. The base's design allows for some flexibility in screw placement.

I want to add a guidescope to my 10" Dobsonian. Is the 1.4oz weight of the Explore Scientific base significant enough to affect balance?

No, the 1.4oz weight of the base itself is negligible and will not affect the balance of a 10" Dobsonian. The weight of your guidescope and camera will be the primary factors you need to account for when balancing the telescope, likely requiring a counterweight on the front of the tube.

Does the Explore Scientific Finder Scope Base come with the necessary screws for installation?

Yes, the base includes the mounting screws required to attach it to your telescope tube. This allows for an easy, out-of-the-box installation.
