  • Z-axis Balancing Kit

    The iOptron Z-axis Balancing Kit is a small sliding counterweight that mounts directly to your mount's dovetail saddle. Sliding the steel weight forward or backward lets you balance the payload front to back, along the length of the telescope (the Z axis).

    Front-to-Back Balance at the Saddle

    The kit has an anodized aluminum base and a steel counterweight that slides forward or backward. It attaches to the saddle with an M8 threaded screw, which is included.

    Confirmed mounts are the CEM120, CEM70, CEM40 and GEM45, with the 6" Vixen/Losmandy dual saddle only.

  • What is the primary purpose of the Z-axis Balancing Kit?

    It balances your payload front to back, along the Z axis. The steel weight slides forward or backward on the kit, which screws into the mount's dovetail saddle.

    Does the Z-axis Balancing Kit work with any saddle?

    No. It is confirmed only for the 6" Vixen/Losmandy dual saddle on the CEM120, CEM70, CEM40 and GEM45.

    Does the kit hold a heavy eyepiece in the focuser?

    No. It does not attach to the focuser; it is a counterweight on the mount's dovetail saddle that balances the whole payload front to back.

    Can it offset a heavy camera at the back of my SCT?

    It can help balance a rear-heavy payload front to back on the saddle. It does not act on the SCT's focuser or mirror.
