Sky-Watcher
Sky-Watcher covers more of the practical astronomy market than almost any other brand: the Star Adventurer that starts people in wide-field imaging, the EQ6-R Pro that carries a serious deep-sky rig, the Flextube Dobsonians that make large aperture transportable, and the Esprit apochromats that compete well above their price. David Astro stocks Sky-Watcher products in Canada, shipping from Canadian inventory.
We set up and service these mounts and telescopes regularly, including the firmware and hand controller quirks that are worth knowing about before your first night rather than during it.

View full detailsThe Sky-Watcher Lineup
The range spans entry-level visual instruments through mounts capable of carrying serious observatory payloads, with mount quality being the line's particular strength.
- Star Adventurer trackers: Compact tracking platforms for camera and lens work, and the most common first step into astrophotography without a full equatorial mount.
- HEQ5 and EQ6-R Pro mounts: Belt-driven German equatorials that have become the standard recommendation for deep-sky imaging, with payload capacity well matched to mid-sized refractors and Newtonians.
- EQ8 and observatory-class mounts: Higher payload equatorials for permanent installations and large optics.
- Esprit and Evostar refractors: ED doublets and apochromatic triplets with dedicated matched field flatteners, widely used for wide-field deep-sky imaging.
- Quattro imaging Newtonians: Fast f/4 astrographs that deliver bright, wide fields, paired with a dedicated coma corrector.
- Flextube and classic Dobsonians: Collapsible truss designs that reduce a large aperture to a transportable size, with GoTo versions available.
- AZ-GTi and alt-azimuth mounts: WiFi-controlled portable mounts for grab-and-go visual observing, convertible to equatorial operation with a wedge.
Why Choose David Astro for Sky-Watcher
Sky-Watcher's value comes with a learning curve on setup and firmware. We shorten it.
- Mount and payload matching: We size the mount to your imaging payload at a realistic 50 to 60% of its visual rating rather than to the headline figure.
- Firmware and controller setup: We advise on hand controller and firmware configuration, including the settings that most affect guiding performance out of the box.
- Matched flatteners specified: The Esprit and Evostar tubes each have a dedicated corrector and back-focus figure, and we supply the correct one with the right spacers.
- Authorized dealer: Full manufacturer warranty with authenticity verified, and warranty service handled inside Canada.
- Canadian stock and safe freight: Heavy mounts and large Dobsonians ship domestically, with no duties or brokerage fees for Canadian buyers.
Sky-Watcher in Canada — Frequently Asked Questions
- HEQ5 or EQ6-R for imaging?
- HEQ5 is comfortable up to roughly 9 kg of imaging payload and is far more portable. EQ6-R handles heavier tubes and longer focal lengths with better guiding margin, at nearly twice the weight to carry.
- Is a Star Adventurer enough to start imaging?
- For camera lenses up to about 200 mm and exposures of a few minutes, yes, and it is an excellent way to learn tracking, framing and stacking before committing to a full mount.
- Do Flextube Dobsonians hold collimation?
- Reasonably well, but the truss design means collimation should be checked after each collapse and re-extension. It takes a minute with a Cheshire once you are used to it.
- Which flattener does my refractor need?
- Each Esprit and Evostar model has a dedicated corrector with its own back-focus. Tell us the exact tube and camera and we will specify the flattener and spacers together.
