Can I use the Antlia Solar Discover Mini for visual solar observing?
No, this product is not recommended for visual use. The infrared blocking characteristics are slightly different from the ISO 12312-2 standard for visual solar viewers. For technical requirements and safety considerations, Antlia does not recommend it for visual observation, and adds that if the product is used for visual observation, all filters built into the assembly must be in good condition for safety. It is designed for solar photosphere photography.
What is the difference between the Mini and Standard versions of the Antlia Solar Discover?
The difference Antlia states is the adapter. The Mini version is designed with a 1.25'' adapter. The Standard version is compatible with both 1.25'' and 2'' adapters.
Can I use the Antlia Solar Discover Mini on a telescope larger than 100mm aperture?
Only with additional light reduction. Without it, the assembly can only be used with refractors up to 100mm aperture. Above 100mm aperture, Antlia states you must use additional light reduction for safe operation, such as ERF filters, solar safety films or lowering the telescope aperture.
What solar details does the Antlia Solar Discover Mini bring out?
Antlia designed the assembly for solar photosphere imaging, such as sunspots. It enhances contrast and sharpness, giving greater visibility of surface details and higher contrast for solar faculae.
Do I need to buy a separate ERF for the Antlia Solar Discover Mini?
No, an Antlia Energy Rejection Filter (ERF) is included in the box. When you use a zenith mirror, the ERF filter must be installed in the correct position for safe operation, as shown in Antlia's installation diagram.
My Antlia Solar Discover Mini looks different from the pictures online. Is it a genuine product?
Yes, this is normal. Antlia has noted that due to different production batches, the Mini version may have two different physical appearances. The function and installation are the same.
