What's the difference between using this Temperature Sensor and the DewMaster2's standard "AutoDew" mode?
The standard AutoDew mode uses the environmental sensor (ambient temperature and humidity) to calculate the dew point and raises heater power as the dew point approaches the ambient temperature. Using this Digital Temperature Sensor enables Probe Mode, which uses the temperature measured near your telescope's optics. This keeps the optics 2-4°C above the ambient temperature, preventing dew while minimizing heat waves that can affect image quality.
Where should I place the Digital Temperature Sensor on my telescope?
For best results, place the sensor so it touches your telescope's hood or dew shield, near the optics. Crucially, do not place it in contact with the dew heater strip itself, as the strip will be warmer than the optics, leading to inaccurate readings and insufficient heating.
Can I use two of these sensors with my Pegasus Astro DewMaster2?
Yes. The DewMaster2 has two probe sockets, labeled T1 and T2, allowing you to connect up to two separate temperature sensors. This is ideal for monitoring both a main telescope and a guide scope, ensuring both optical systems remain dew-free throughout your imaging session.
For an 8" SCT with a 60mm guide scope, how would I use two Pegasus Astro Temperature Sensors?
You would attach one sensor to the dew shield of the 8" SCT, near the corrector plate, and plug it into the T1 socket. Attach the second sensor to the body of the 60mm guide scope and plug it into the T2 socket. In the DewMaster2 output settings, you would then assign the dew heater for the SCT to "Probe T1" and the dew heater for the guide scope to "Probe T2".
Does this Pegasus Astro sensor measure ambient temperature for the DewMaster2?
No. This sensor is designed specifically to measure the temperature of a surface it's in contact with, such as your telescope tube. The ambient air temperature, humidity, and dew point are measured by the separate environmental sensor that plugs into the RJ12 "EXT" port on the DewMaster2.
Is the 1.2m cable long enough for a large refractor on an equatorial mount?
The cable is 1.2 m (about 47 inches) long. Measure the path from the probe position near the front of your telescope to where your DewMaster2 is mounted before ordering, especially on long refractors.
