  • Pegasus Astro Ultimate Powerbox v3 Bundle with 12V/10A XT60 Power Supply

This bundle pairs the Pegasus Astro Ultimate Powerbox v3 with its recommended 12V/10A power supply, a complete power and data hub for your imaging rig. The UPBv3 handles a total current of up to 20 A (240 W), distributed through six smart 12V outputs, two always-on 12V outputs, three 3 A dew heater channels and two adjustable voltage outputs. An 8-port USB hub (6 x USB3.1, 2 x USB2) supplies up to 2.5 A per port, and built-in 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi lets you control it remotely. Only one main power cord and one USB cable run to the UPBv3; it manages every other device cable.

The Complete Power Solution: UPBv3 with Matched 12V/10A XT60 Supply

This kit tackles cable clutter, one of the most common headaches in astrophotography. It combines the Ultimate Powerbox v3 with the certified Pegasus Astro 12V/10A Power Supply Unit, the supply the UPBv3 manual recommends. The power supply plugs into the UPBv3's XT60 input and delivers up to 120 W of regulated, low-ripple 12 V power.

The UPBv3 accepts a voltage range of 11V to 14.5V, and this included power supply operates squarely within that window. This eliminates guesswork and ensures your equipment receives clean, consistent power, while reverse polarity and over-voltage protections safeguard every connected device.

12V Distribution: 8 Outputs Delivering Up to 6A or 8A Each

The core of the UPBv3 is its robust 12V power distribution. It features six smart outputs, each capable of delivering up to 6A. These ports are individually switchable via software, include current sensing for monitoring, and have overload protection that automatically shuts down a port to protect your gear.

In addition to the smart ports, two Always-ON 12V outputs provide up to 8 A each for devices that should stay powered. Outputs 3 through 6 on the smart bank can also be switched from constant 12 V to PWM output, adjustable from 0% to 100% in 1% steps.

Adjustable Outputs: A 3-12V Buck and 12-24V Boost Output

Modern imaging rigs often use devices that don't run on 12V. The UPBv3 addresses this with two fully adjustable, regulated outputs. A step-down "buck" converter provides a selectable voltage from 3V to 12V (in 1V steps) at up to 3A, ideal for powering a Raspberry Pi at 5V or a DSLR camera with a battery coupler at 8V.

A step-up boost converter provides a selectable voltage from 12 V to 24 V at up to 4 A (at 19 V). Pegasus Astro states that it fully supports Intel NUC PCs set to 19 V and can support 10Micron mounts set to 24 V.

    8-Port USB Hub: 6x USB3.1 and 2.5A Per Port

A reliable USB hub is critical, and the UPBv3's industrial-grade, 8-port hub is built for the demands of astrophotography. It includes six USB3.1 SuperSpeed ports and two USB2 High Speed ports, all of which are backwards compatible. Each of the eight ports can be individually switched on or off through the software, helping you troubleshoot problematic devices without unplugging cables in the dark.

Every port can supply up to 2.5 A, for cameras, filter wheels and other USB devices. Total draw from all USB ports must stay under 8 A; above that, the UPBv3 reboots to protect itself. Each port is also protected against overload and shuts down automatically, informing the operating system.

3-Channel AutoDew System with 3A Per Channel

The UPBv3 features three RCA outputs for dew heaters, each providing up to 3A of current with PWM control. The system's intelligence comes from the "AutoDew" function, which uses readings from the internal environmental sensor (or an optional external sensor) to calculate the dew point in real-time.

By monitoring temperature, humidity and dew point, the UPBv3 adjusts the power level of your dew straps automatically, keeping optics clear while minimizing energy use, which matters on battery power in the field. Each dew output cuts off above 3 A, and you can turn AutoDew on or off for each port from Unity or the web dashboard.

Integrated 2.0A Stepper Controller and 250V/10A Relay

Beyond power and data, the UPBv3 has a built-in stepper motor controller for unipolar and bipolar motors with up to 2 A per coil, which Pegasus Astro says can drive nearly any stepper motor on the astronomy market. It offers micro-stepping from full step down to 1/32, silent and vibration-free operation, acceleration and deceleration ramping, and stores the last position. ASCOM6 and Alpaca focuser drivers are available.

An SPST-NO relay switch lets you control third-party equipment. Its rated loads are 10 A at 250 VAC, 10 A at 125 VAC and 5 A at 30 VDC, while Pegasus Astro states that the relay and socket support up to 220 V / 8 A AC; the cables and socket you use must match the voltage and current. The relay can be switched, scheduled and given a boot state from software.

2.4 GHz Wi-Fi Control via Unity Platform & ASCOM Alpaca

The UPBv3 can be managed without a USB connection. Its built-in 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, with an external detachable antenna, can join your home network or act as its own hotspot. Once connected, you control every function through a web dashboard at upbv3.local, from any browser on any device.

On a computer, the Pegasus Astro Unity Platform software controls the UPBv3, and it supports ASCOM6 drivers, ASCOM Alpaca and a command socket over TCP. That lets acquisition software such as N.I.N.A. manage power, dew and focus from your imaging sequence. Firmware can be upgraded by the user.

VESA Mountable Enclosure Rated for -40°C to +80°C

The enclosure is designed for integration. Its 75 x 75 mm and 100 x 100 mm VESA patterns (M4 threads) let you stack a mini PC such as an Intel NUC with the UPBv3, a compact and organized control center for your telescope.

Built from blue anodized 6061 aircraft aluminum alloy for corrosion resistance, the 400 g unit is rated for operation from -40°C to +80°C and humidity up to 99%. It is protected against moisture but not waterproof, so keep it clean and dry.

    Included 12V/10A PSU: 120W of Low-Ripple Power

This bundle includes the Pegasus Astro 12V/10A power supply, the manufacturer's recommended power source for the UPBv3. It provides a regulated 12 V output of up to 10 A (120 W) with low ripple and noise.

The power supply is sealed against humidity and dust. Its protections cover over-current and short circuits, over-voltage, power line surges (6.3 A 250 V input fuse) and no-load operation, and it is CE and FCC certified. It accepts 90 to 264 V AC at 47 to 63 Hz.

Power Budgeting: Understanding the 10A Supply vs. 20A Capacity

The Ultimate Powerbox v3 can carry up to 20 A (240 W) in total. Pegasus Astro recommends a supply that delivers at least 8 A, and up to 10 A when your equipment peaks, which is exactly what the included 10 A (120 W) supply provides.

If your rig needs more than 10 A, Pegasus Astro offers a 20 A version of the supply (PEG-PSU-XT60H, sold separately), or you can use a 12-14 V LiFePO4 battery, which the manual recommends for mobile use. Never exceed 15.0 V DC at the input; above 14.5 V the UPBv3 cuts power to all outputs.

  • Can the Ultimate Powerbox v3 power my Intel NUC and my cooled camera at the same time?

Yes. Set the adjustable boost output to 19 V for the Intel NUC, and power the cooled camera from one of the six smart 12V outputs (up to 6 A each). Add up the draw of everything you connect and keep the total within the included supply's 10 A, or move to the 20 A supply (sold separately).

What is the AutoDew feature on the Ultimate Powerbox v3 and how does it work?

AutoDew uses the environmental sensor's dew point reading to set the power of each dew heater output automatically. Select Auto for a dew port and the UPBv3 decides when to activate the heater and how strongly, preventing dew while minimizing energy use. An external sensor (sold separately) gives the most accurate readings, and the UPBv3 prefers it automatically when connected.

Can I control the Ultimate Powerbox v3 from my phone or tablet?

Yes. The Ultimate Powerbox v3 has built-in 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and can act as a hotspot. You can connect your phone, tablet, or laptop directly to its Wi-Fi network and access a full web dashboard by navigating to upbv3.local in your browser. This dashboard allows you to control all power outputs, USB ports, dew heaters, and the focuser without needing any installed software.

Which focuser motors work with the Ultimate Powerbox v3 stepper controller?

Pegasus Astro lists the Pegasus Motor Focus Kit (v1/v2), Robofocus, Moonlite, Lakeside, Starlight HSM, MSM, DirectSync and POSI Drive motors, Starizona Microtouch, Optec DirectSync or QuickSync, Rigel nStep and Lacerta motors. Each motor type needs its own cable because the pinouts differ; contact us or Pegasus Astro to confirm the right cable for your motor.

What happens if a device connected to the Ultimate Powerbox v3 draws too much current?

Each of the six smart 12V outputs has overload protection and turns itself off automatically if overloaded. Each USB port is also protected and shuts down on overload, informing the operating system, and if the total USB draw passes 8 A the UPBv3 reboots as a protection measure.

Why does this bundle include a 10 A power supply when the UPBv3 is rated for 20 A?

The 12V/10A supply is the certified supply Pegasus Astro recommends for the UPBv3. The manual asks for at least 8 A and up to 10 A for peak demand. The 20 A rating is the Powerbox's maximum capacity; if your rig needs more than 10 A, use the 20 A supply (PEG-PSU-XT60H, sold separately) or a suitable 12-14 V battery.

Can I power a Raspberry Pi 5 with the Ultimate Powerbox v3?

Yes. Pegasus Astro states that every USB port fully supports a Raspberry Pi 3, 4 or 5, and so does the adjustable buck output set to 5 V (up to 3 A).

How do I mount the Ultimate Powerbox v3 to my telescope?

The enclosure has 75 x 75 mm and 100 x 100 mm VESA patterns with M4 threads. Pegasus Astro also makes optional accessories, sold separately: the A-Plate (PEG-APLATE), the Universal Single Clamp (PEG-USCLAMP), which grips Vixen and Losmandy 3-inch dovetails, and the Spider Clamp (PEG-SPIDERCLAMP), which protects cables and holds a VESA mini PC.
