  • TeleVue Ethos 6mm 100° Eyepiece - 2" / 1.25"

The Tele Vue Ethos 6mm is the definitive high magnification tool for observers who refuse to compromise on field of view. While typical high power eyepieces create a narrow tunnel effect, the 6mm Ethos provides a massive 100° window that is wide enough to keep the entire lunar disk in view even at significant magnifications. This focal length is specifically engineered to pull out the finest details in planetary nebulae and lunar rilles while maintaining the surrounding celestial context.

Using the 6mm Ethos creates a unique observing experience where the equipment seems to vanish. The 10.4mm field stop allows for high power resolution that can split tight double stars or reveal the inner filaments of the Crab Nebula. It is parfocal with the 13mm, 10mm, and 8mm Ethos models, ensuring that your transition to high power remains efficient and focused.

Precision Resolution for the Deepest Targets

High magnification is only useful if the contrast is high enough to distinguish subtle features. The 6mm Ethos uses advanced glass types and coatings to ensure that every photon of light from a distant planet or galaxy reaches your eye with maximum clarity.

    • Planetary Performance: Provides enough power to resolve the Encke Division in Saturn’s rings during nights of steady atmospheric seeing.
    • Galaxy Hunter: The 0.6mm exit pupil in an f/10 system darkens the sky background to the limit, allowing the spiral structure of face on galaxies to become visible.
    • Extended Drift Time: The 100° field means a planet stays in the sweet spot of your mirror significantly longer than it would in a standard 50° or 70° eyepiece.

    Versatile Hybrid Barrel Design

The 6mm Ethos includes the Tele Vue hybrid barrel system, making it compatible with a wide range of equipment. It slides natively into 1.25" focusers for small refractors or 2" diagonals for larger reflectors and SCTs.

To ensure the purest views, every lens edge is blackened and the internal baffles are designed to eliminate stray light. This ensures that even when a bright moon is just outside the field, your view remains free of glare and internal reflections.

    The Spacewalk Standard

Despite its high magnification, the 6mm Ethos maintains the series standard 15mm eye relief. This consistency is vital for observers who frequently swap focal lengths to match the atmospheric seeing conditions of the night.

The hybrid barrel design allows the 6mm to be used in 1.25" focusers for grab and go refractors or 2" diagonals for larger light buckets. Every internal surface is optimized with blackened lens edges and multi coatings to suppress ghosting when observing bright targets like Mars or the Moon.

  • Is the 6mm Ethos too much power for my telescope?

The usability of the 6mm depends on your telescope focal length and the local seeing conditions:

    • 8" SCT: At 333x magnification, the 6mm Ethos is a specialized tool for nights of exceptional stability to view planetary detail.
    • f/5 Reflector: In a 1200mm focal length scope, it provides 200x, which is a perfect high power workhorse for most nights.

How does the 6mm Ethos compare to the 6mm Delos?

The primary difference is the balance between eye relief and immersion:

    • Delos 6mm: Features 20mm of eye relief, making it the better choice for those who must observe while wearing glasses.
    • Ethos 6mm: Provides the 100° "spacewalk" effect that makes the eyepiece barrel seem to disappear, though it has 15mm of eye relief.

Is the 6mm Ethos parfocal with other Ethos eyepieces?

Yes, the 6mm is parfocal with the 8mm model. This allows you to increase magnification to check for fine detail without having to hunt for focus again.

Can I use the 6mm Ethos in a 1.25" diagonal?

Yes, the 6mm Ethos uses a hybrid 2" / 1.25" barrel. It fits into standard 1.25" equipment, but ensure your diagonal is high quality to support the 0.95 lb weight of the eyepiece.

Do I need a Paracorr with the 6mm Ethos?

If you are using a fast Newtonian (f/4.5 or faster), a Paracorr Type 2 is recommended. While the magnification is high, the 100° field is wide enough that mirror coma will be visible at the edges without correction.
