Ensembles d'accessoires

A new telescope often arrives with one eyepiece and no filters, which leaves a considerable gap between unboxing and a good first night. Accessory kits close that gap with a coordinated set — a range of magnifications, a Barlow, a few filters and a case — usually for less than the components cost separately. David Astro carries accessory kits in Canada, held in stock for fast domestic shipping.

What a Good Accessory Kit Contains

The value of a kit is in the spacing of what it includes — magnifications that do not overlap and filters that suit the telescope's aperture.

  • A spread of eyepiece focal lengths: Typically four or five, spaced so each is a meaningful step rather than a near-duplicate of the one beside it.
  • A Barlow lens: Doubles the useful magnifications available, which is why a kit with a good Barlow effectively contains twice as many eyepieces.
  • Colour and lunar filters: A basic Wratten selection plus a neutral density or polarizing filter for the Moon.
  • A nebula filter in better kits: A UHC-type filter, which is where a kit begins to be genuinely useful for deep-sky observing.
  • A fitted case: Compartmented storage that keeps everything together and protects the coatings.
  • Barrel size consistency: Kits come in 1.25 inch or 2 inch. Confirm your focuser and diagonal accept the size before ordering.

Are accessory kits good value?
Generally yes for a first telescope, since they cover a full magnification range for less than buying separately. Their weakness is that the highest magnification eyepiece often exceeds what a small aperture supports.
Will the kit fit my telescope?
Check barrel size — 1.25 inch fits almost everything, 2 inch requires a compatible focuser and diagonal. Tell us your telescope and we will confirm before you order.
Should I buy a kit or individual eyepieces?
A kit if you are starting out and want coverage cheaply. Individual premium eyepieces if you already know which focal lengths you use most, particularly in a fast telescope where edge performance matters.
