What is the main advantage of the fixed-power Kowa TE-14WD over a zoom eyepiece like the TE-9Z?
The Kowa TE-14WD gives a single wide-angle magnification: on the TSN-82SV, 32x with a 2.2° real field of view, wider than the TE-9Z's 1.8° at its lowest (21x) setting. The TE-9Z instead lets you zoom from 21x to 63x. Kowa makes no brightness comparison between the two.
Which Kowa spotting scopes are compatible with the TE-14WD eyepiece?
The Kowa TE-14WD is designed for the TSN-82SV, TSN-660M, and TSN-600 series spotting scopes. It is also backward-compatible with older Kowa models, including the TSN-1, TSN-2, TSN-3, and TSN-4.
How much eye relief does the Kowa TE-14WD have?
Kowa lists 20mm of eye relief for the TE-14WD and describes generous eye relief via the twist-up eyecup. For the TSN-82SV, Kowa's long eye relief option is the TE-17HD with 32mm.
Does the magnification of the Kowa TE-14WD change on different scopes?
Yes. An eyepiece's magnification depends on the focal length of the scope it is used on. Kowa's TSN-82SV manual explains that the magnification printed on these eyepieces is for TSN-660/600 series scopes and changes on the TSN-82SV: the TE-14WD, listed as 30x, gives 32x on the TSN-82SV.
How well does the Kowa TE-14WD work for digiscoping distant wildlife?
Kowa describes the TE-14WD as very well suited for digiscoping, and says its fully multi-coated optics deliver crisp images and true color. The wide field also makes it easier to locate and frame your subject.
What's the difference between the Kowa TE-14WD and the TE-17HD eyepiece?
Both are fixed-power eyepieces for the TSN-82SV. The TE-14WD is the wide-angle eyepiece: 32x with a 2.2° real field and 20mm eye relief on the TSN-82SV. The TE-17HD is the long eye relief (LER) eyepiece: 27x with a 2.0° real field and 32mm eye relief on the TSN-82SV.
