  • Sky-Watcher D-Series 355mm (14") Universal Dovetail

The Sky-Watcher D-Series 355mm (14") Universal Dovetail is a Losmandy-style plate for mounting a wide variety of telescopes on mounts with D-style saddles. At 14 inches, it gives more room than shorter plates for positioning tube rings and balancing longer or heavier payloads.

355mm (14") Length for Balance and Accessory Space

The extra length of this 355mm dovetail plate gives you room to position tube rings, add a guide scope and slide the payload forward or backward to balance longer or heavier setups.

This D-plate is machined from aluminum and finished in Sky-Watcher's green anodizing. Its numerous holes, including countersunk slots and holes, allow it to be attached to many different telescope tube rings and accessories without drilling.

Choosing Your Length: The 355mm vs. 180mm D-Plate

Sky-Watcher offers this universal D-plate in two lengths: this 355 mm (14 in) long version and a 180 mm (7 in) version.

    • 355mm (14") Plate (This Model): The long version, with more room for positioning tube rings, adding a guide scope and balancing longer or heavier setups.
    • 180mm (7") Plate: The shorter version of the same universal D-plate.
  • Will the Sky-Watcher 355mm D-plate fit my mount?

Yes, if your mount is equipped with a Losmandy-style "D" saddle. This plate is compatible with any standard D-style saddle, including dual D/V saddles that accept both Losmandy and Vixen-style plates.

When should I choose the 355mm D-plate over the shorter 180mm version?

Opt for the 355mm (14") D-plate when your setup is long, heavy, or has multiple accessories. It provides the extra length needed to slide the telescope for precise balancing, which is critical for long-exposure astrophotography. The shorter 180mm plate is better suited for smaller, lighter, and more compact telescopes.

    Can I attach a guidescope to the Sky-Watcher 355mm D-plate?

Yes, the 14-inch length gives more room than shorter plates for positioning tube rings and adding a guide scope, while still leaving room to slide the payload for balance. Its numerous holes and slots allow many accessories to be attached without drilling.

What is the benefit of the countersunk holes on the 355mm D-plate?

The countersunk holes allow the heads of your mounting bolts to sit flush with or below the surface of the plate, so they do not interfere with the mount saddle as you slide the dovetail to balance your telescope.
