What do I need to power the SynLink Universal Astroimaging Controller?
The SynLink Controller does not include a power supply. You will need a separate 12V DC power source with a 2.1mm center-positive plug capable of delivering enough amperage for the SynLink and all connected devices. The controller has two 5 amp power inputs and can output a maximum of 10 amps total across its four output ports.
Can I use the SynLink Controller with non-Sky-Watcher mounts?
Yes. While it includes a dedicated serial port for a direct connection to supported Sky-Watcher mounts, it is designed to be a universal controller. Most other GoTo mounts can be connected and controlled via a standard USB connection using their respective drivers (e.g., ASCOM on a Windows device running the SynLink app, or INDI drivers).
How much storage does the SynLink Controller have for images?
The SynLink Controller comes with 64GB of internal eMMC storage. If you require more space for extensive imaging projects or high-resolution video, you can connect an external storage device via one of the available USB ports for unlimited external memory.
How does the SynLink Controller handle a meridian flip on a target like the Andromeda Galaxy (M31)?
The SynLink's automated sequencing software manages meridian flips automatically. When programming your imaging sequence for M31, you can set the meridian flip behavior. At the designated time, the SynLink will pause guiding, command the mount to slew to the other side of the meridian, plate-solve to re-center M31 precisely, and then resume guiding and imaging without manual intervention.
I have an 8" SCT with a separate guide scope. Can the SynLink manage my main camera, guide camera, and electronic focuser all at once?
Yes, absolutely. The SynLink Controller is equipped with four USB 3.0 ports and two USB 2.0 ports. You can connect your main imaging camera to a USB 3.0 port for fast downloads, and your guide camera and electronic focuser to the other USB ports, with plenty of connectivity to spare.
What's the benefit of the SynLink's 2.4G/5G WiFi?
The dual-band WiFi provides flexibility for your wireless connection. The 5G band offers faster speeds and less interference, ideal when you are near the telescope. The 2.4G band provides a longer range, which is useful for controlling the SynLink from a distance, such as inside your house, though with potentially slower data transfer speeds.
