The ZWO ASI2600MM-AIR integrates a 26.4 MP APS-C format monochrome sensor with 3.76µm pixels, an ASIAIR control system, and a guide camera into a single device. Its back-illuminated Sony sensor achieves 91% peak quantum efficiency with read noise as low as 1.0e-, capturing faint signal with exceptional clarity. All images and data are stored directly to the 256 GB of onboard non-volatile memory, eliminating the need for a connected laptop.
The ASI2600MM-AIR consolidates your main imaging camera, guide camera, and ASIAIR computer into one body, drastically simplifying your setup. This design reduces cable clutter from multiple USB and power lines down to a single power connection for the entire system. With 256 GB of high-speed internal storage, you can image for multiple nights without worrying about data transfer, while the integrated WiFi allows for complete remote control from a smartphone or tablet.
At the core of the ASI2600MM-AIR is the Sony IMX571, a back-illuminated APS-C sensor renowned for its sensitivity. The 28.3 mm diagonal sensor provides a wide field of view, while the 3.76µm pixels offer high-resolution sampling on a wide range of telescopes. A peak Quantum Efficiency of 91% means the vast majority of photons hitting the sensor are converted to signal, which is critical for capturing faint nebulosity and galaxy details.
Two-stage TEC cooling drops the sensor temperature to 30°C below ambient, enabling a remarkably low read noise floor of just 1.0e- to 3.3e-. This preserves faint details in your images, especially in narrowband exposures. The sensor's large 50ke- full well capacity ensures stars in dense fields remain unsaturated, preserving color and detail, and delivering high dynamic range across your entire frame.
The ASI2600MM-AIR is an integrated system, while the ASI2600MM Pro is a dedicated camera. Both share the exact same high-performance 26.4 MP Sony IMX571 monochrome sensor, cooling, and core imaging capabilities.
The ASI2600MM-AIR features a guide sensor built directly into the camera body, positioned to pick off stars from the periphery of the main optical path. This on-axis design eliminates the complexity, weight, and potential flexure of a separate off-axis guider (OAG) or guide scope. The guide sensor focus is independently adjustable, ensuring you can achieve sharp guide stars and a sharp primary image simultaneously across any system that illuminates a standard 44mm image circle.
The primary advantage is integration. The ASI2600MM-AIR combines the camera, guide camera, and ASIAIR computer into a single unit. This drastically reduces cable management, potential points of failure, and setup time, creating a more reliable and streamlined imaging rig with 256 GB of built-in storage.
The ASI2600MM-AIR has a second, smaller sensor located inside the camera body, off the main imaging axis. It samples stars from the edge of your telescope's corrected image circle, functioning like an internal off-axis guider. This eliminates the need for a separate guide scope or OAG, and its focus can be adjusted independently of the main sensor to ensure sharp guide stars.
The 3.76µm pixels are versatile and pair well with a wide range of short-to-medium focal length telescopes. For optimal sampling under typical seeing conditions (1.5-2.5 arcseconds), telescopes with a focal length between 750mm and 1300mm are an excellent match. Shorter refractors will produce a very wide field of view, while longer focal lengths can still work well in locations with excellent seeing.
Yes, with the right telescope. The APS-C sensor (23.5mm x 15.7mm) is large enough to frame the entirety of the Andromeda Galaxy (M31). To do so, you would need a wide-field telescope with a focal length of approximately 400mm to 500mm.
Yes. The camera, internal computer, and TEC cooling system require a 12V DC power source. While it simplifies data and control cables, a stable power supply is necessary for operation. The camera body includes 12V DC output ports to power other accessories like a filter wheel or electronic focuser.
You can transfer images wirelessly from the ASIAIR app to your phone or tablet. For large data transfers, you can connect a computer directly to the camera's USB-C port to access the 256 GB internal storage as if it were an external drive, allowing for fast and efficient offloading of your raw files.
