What is the primary function of the Baader Hyperion DT-Ring M72/M82?

The Baader Hyperion DT-Ring M72/M82 serves as a precision-threaded adapter. Its sole purpose is to connect two different thread sizes within the Baader optical accessory system: M72 female threads to M82 male threads.

Which specific Baader components require the M72/M82 DT-Ring?

This ring is explicitly designed for use with other Baader Hyperion Digital T-Ring (DT) components. It is the necessary link to connect the HDT54/62 adapter ring to the HDT62/72 adapter ring, creating a single, solid unit.

Is the Baader M72/M82 DT-Ring compatible with non-Baader accessories?

While the M72 and M82 threads are standard sizes, this ring is optimized for the specific backfocus and mechanical tolerances of the Baader Hyperion system. Using it with third-party accessories may work, but it is not guaranteed to provide the correct spacing or a perfectly rigid connection.

How would I use the Baader M72/M82 DT-Ring in an imaging train with a large format camera?

In a custom imaging train, the Baader M72/M82 DT-Ring allows you to adapt larger accessories, like a field flattener with an M82 output, to a component that uses the M72 thread standard. This is critical for building a wide-aperture, fully-illuminated light path for cameras with large sensors, preventing vignetting.

What is the advantage of using this Baader DT-Ring over a generic M72-to-M82 step ring?

The primary advantage is system integration. The Baader Hyperion DT-Ring is designed to match the exact optical path length and mechanical profile of other Baader components. This ensures there are no unforeseen spacing errors or mechanical flexure that could degrade image quality, a common risk with generic adapters.

Does the Baader M72/M82 DT-Ring add significant length to the optical path?

As a thin adapter ring, it is designed to have a minimal optical path length. Its primary role is to convert threads, not to act as an extension tube. The exact length is engineered to be accounted for when used with the intended Baader HDT rings.
