What is the main advantage of the Baader M68 10mm Extension Tube over a standard 2" extension?

Rigidity. The Baader M68 10mm Extension Tube threads directly into your optical train, creating a solid metal-on-metal connection that eliminates the tilt and flex common with 2" extensions held by set screws or compression rings. This is essential for heavy imaging payloads.

When would I need this specific 10mm Baader M68 Extension Tube?

You need this 10mm extension when you need to add a small, precise amount of spacing to your M68 imaging train to achieve perfect back focus. It is a core component of the Baader M68 Tele-Compendium system, used for fine-tuning the distance for flatteners, reducers, or other correctors.

Can I stack multiple Baader M68 10mm Extension Tubes?

Yes. The M68 system is designed to be modular. You can stack multiple extension tubes of various lengths (e.g., two 10mm tubes for 20mm of extension) to achieve the exact spacing your optical setup requires, all while maintaining a rigid, threaded connection.

Is the Baader M68 10mm Extension Tube compatible with other brands' M68 accessories?

Yes, provided the other accessories use the standard M68 x 1mm thread pitch. The M68 standard is used by several manufacturers, making this extension tube a versatile component for building robust, custom imaging trains.

How does the Baader M68 10mm Extension Tube help when imaging Jupiter with a large SCT and a telecentric system?

When imaging Jupiter, a telecentric system ensures the focal plane is evenly illuminated, but it also adds significant weight and length to your setup. The Baader M68 10mm Extension Tube provides a flex-free connection that prevents the telecentric and camera from sagging, which would misalign the planet on the sensor and ruin sharpness. It also helps achieve the precise spacing required for the telecentric to perform optimally.

Will this 10mm M68 extension improve my H-alpha solar imaging?

Absolutely. High-resolution solar imaging with H-alpha systems like those from Lunt or DayStar requires perfect optical alignment and critical spacing. The Baader M68 10mm Extension Tube provides the mechanical stability to hold heavy blocking filters and cameras without flexure, while also helping you achieve the exact spacing needed to keep the etalon on-band across the entire solar disk.
