What else do I need to connect my Canon camera to a telescope with this Baader T-Ring?

The T-Ring is the first piece. You will also need a T-Adapter that fits your telescope's focuser (typically 1.25" or 2"). The T-Adapter slides into the focuser and has male T-2 threads on the other end, which screw directly into this Baader T-Ring, completing the mechanical connection.

Will this Baader T-Ring work with my Canon R-series mirrorless camera?

Yes, but you must use the Canon EF-EOS R Mount Adapter between the camera body and this T-Ring. This Baader T-Ring is designed for the Canon EF mount, which the official Canon adapter converts your R-series RF mount to.

How is the Baader T-2 T-Ring different from a cheaper, generic Canon T-ring?

The primary difference is system integration. The Baader T-Ring is part of the T-2 modular system, allowing you to add extension tubes, off-axis guiders, and filter drawers with guaranteed threading and spacing. Generic rings are typically standalone parts with no upgrade path, and their mechanical tolerances can be less precise, potentially leading to image tilt.

Can I use filters with the Baader Canon EF T-Ring?

Yes. The most effective way is to place a Baader T-2 Filter Drawer between this T-Ring and your telescope's T-Adapter. This allows you to easily swap 1.25" or 2" filters without disassembling your imaging train.

What is the benefit of using the Baader T-Ring for imaging the Andromeda Galaxy (M31) with my 8" SCT?

For a large target like the Andromeda Galaxy (M31), you'll likely use a focal reducer with your SCT. The Baader T-2 system, starting with this T-Ring, makes it easier to add the necessary T-2 extension rings to achieve the reducer's precise back-focus requirement (e.g., 105mm for a Celestron f/6.3 reducer). This ensures sharp stars across the entire field of your Canon's APS-C or full-frame sensor.

I have a refractor with a field flattener. Is the Baader T-2 T-Ring the right choice?

Absolutely. Field flatteners have a very strict back-focus distance, often 55mm. The Baader T-2 T-Ring, combined with the appropriate Baader T-2 extension tubes, allows you to build up that 55mm distance with mechanical precision, which is critical for achieving a perfectly flat field with pinpoint stars to the edge of your frame.
