When do I need the Baader UltraShort T-Ring instead of a standard Canon T-ring?

You need the Baader UltraShort T-Ring when your imaging train has very little back focus tolerance. This is common when using accessories like field flatteners, coma correctors, or off-axis guiders. If you cannot reach focus with a standard T-ring because it's too thick, the UltraShort model provides the necessary clearance.

Will the Baader UltraShort T-Ring help me reach focus with my Celestron EdgeHD and an Off-Axis Guider?

Yes, this is a perfect use case. Celestron EdgeHD systems have a specific back focus requirement, and adding an Off-Axis Guider (OAG) consumes a large portion of it. The Baader UltraShort T-Ring for Canon EOS is often the key component that allows the entire system to come to focus while maintaining the correct spacing for the flattener.

I have a Newtonian with a coma corrector that has very little back focus. Is the Baader UltraShort T-Ring right for my Canon EOS camera?

Absolutely. Fast Newtonians paired with coma correctors are notoriously demanding on back focus, often leaving only the standard 55mm to work with. A standard T-ring can make it impossible to reach this distance. The Baader UltraShort T-Ring is designed for exactly this scenario, saving critical millimeters to ensure you can achieve perfect coma correction and focus.

What is "back focus" and why is saving it important for my Canon camera?

Back focus is the distance from the last optical element (like a corrector) to the camera sensor where the image is sharpest. Every adapter and accessory you add uses up some of this distance. Saving back focus with the Baader UltraShort T-Ring is important because it allows you to add more accessories, like a filter wheel, while still being able to achieve a sharp image.

Is the Baader UltraShort T-Ring compatible with both Canon EF (DSLR) and RF (mirrorless) mounts?

This T-ring is designed for the Canon EOS EF mount. To use it with a Canon RF-mount mirrorless camera (like the R series), you must use the standard Canon EF-to-RF adapter that came with your camera. The T-ring attaches to that adapter, not directly to the mirrorless camera body.

Does the minimal thickness of the Baader UltraShort T-Ring affect its strength?

No. Despite its ultra-low profile, the Baader UltraShort T-Ring is precision-machined from high-quality materials to ensure a rigid and secure connection. It is designed to prevent flexure, even with heavier DSLR cameras, ensuring your optical train remains perfectly aligned.
