What is the Daystar T-2(M)/T-2(M) adapter used for?

The Daystar T-2(M)/T-2(M) adapter is a thread adapter used to connect two pieces of equipment that both have female T-2 (M42x0.75) threads. It functions as a 'gender changer,' allowing you to create connections that would otherwise be impossible in your imaging or visual accessory train.

What are the thread specifications for this Daystar adapter?

This adapter features standard male T-2 threads on both sides. The T-2 thread standard is metrically defined as M42x0.75, meaning it has a 42mm diameter and a 0.75mm thread pitch. This is the most common thread used for connecting astronomy cameras, filter wheels, and other imaging accessories.

Will this Daystar adapter add significant length to my imaging train?

No. While any adapter adds some length, this T-2(M)/T-2(M) adapter is designed to be as low-profile as possible. Its purpose is simply to join two components, and it contributes minimally to the overall back focus distance of your optical train. However, you should always account for its thickness when making precise spacing calculations.

I have two T-2 extension tubes with female threads. Can the Daystar T-2(M)/T-2(M) adapter join them?

Yes, this is a perfect use case for this adapter. You can use the Daystar T-2(M)/T-2(M) adapter to securely connect two female-threaded T-2 extension tubes, effectively creating a single, longer extension tube for achieving a specific back focus distance with your camera and corrector.

Can I use this adapter to connect my Celestron SCT's T-adapter to a filter wheel?

It depends on the threads of your specific components. A standard Celestron T-Adapter for SCTs has male T-2 threads on the camera side. Most filter wheels have female T-2 threads on both sides. In that standard setup, you would not need this adapter. However, if you have a custom or non-standard component in your train that results in two female threads facing each other, this adapter would be the correct solution.

How do I prevent the Daystar T-2(M)/T-2(M) adapter from getting stuck in my accessories?

To prevent thread binding, only tighten the adapter and accessories until they are snug. Overtightening can make them difficult to separate later. If you frequently reconfigure your setup, you can apply a very small amount of specialized lubricant for astronomical threads or use a strap wrench for gentle, non-damaging leverage if a component does get stuck.
