Explore Scientific covers visual and imaging from beginner through advanced, with the eyepiece series being the best-known part of the catalogue.

  • 62, 68, 82 and 92 degree eyepieces: Waterproof and argon-purged so internal surfaces cannot fog, which matters on humid Canadian summer nights and in rapid temperature drops.
  • 100 degree series: Very wide apparent field designs for immersive views, particularly effective in undriven Dobsonians where field width equals tracking time.
  • ED apochromatic refractors: FCD-100 and FCD-1 glass air-spaced triplets with carbon fibre and aluminium tube options, suited to both wide-field imaging and high-contrast visual use.

Explore Scientific in Canada — Frequently Asked Questions

What does argon purging actually do?
It replaces the air inside the eyepiece with dry argon and seals it, so interior lens surfaces cannot fog when the eyepiece is moved between warm and cold air. In Canadian conditions that happens constantly.
Is the 82 or the 92 degree series better?
The 92 series has a wider field and better edge correction in fast telescopes, at more weight and cost. In an f/8 or slower scope the 82 series performs very close to it for considerably less.
Are the ED refractors good for imaging?
Yes, paired with a matched field flattener. The triplet designs control colour well enough for broadband imaging, and the focusers on the current models handle typical imaging trains.
Is the warranty valid if I buy in Canada?
Yes, and it is handled here. As an authorized dealer we register and service warranty claims domestically, without international shipping.
