What problem does the Baader Ring-Wrench solve?

The Baader Ring-Wrench provides extra leverage to easily and securely tighten or loosen the clamping knobs on Baader Pan EQ clamps and the Stronghold assembly. This is especially useful in cold weather, when wearing gloves, or for users who find it difficult to apply sufficient hand-torque.

Is this wrench compatible with clamps other than the Baader Pan EQ and Stronghold?

This wrench is custom-designed specifically for the knob size and shape used on Baader Pan EQ clamps and the Stronghold tangent assembly. It is not intended for use with other brands or models, as a proper fit cannot be guaranteed.

Can I overtighten my clamps using the Baader Ring-Wrench?

Yes. The wrench provides significant mechanical advantage, so it is possible to overtighten the knobs. The goal is to achieve a firm, secure lock, not to apply maximum force. Use a gentle, controlled motion and stop when you feel solid resistance to avoid stripping threads or damaging your equipment.

How does the Baader Ring-Wrench help when setting up a portable mount like a Sky-Watcher HEQ5 in the field?

When you're setting up a portable mount in the dark and cold, the Baader Ring-Wrench makes attaching your telescope via a Baader clamp much faster and more reliable. You can get a secure lock on the dovetail bar even with gloves on, ensuring your optical tube is safe before you let go.

Why is the Baader Ring-Wrench useful when mounting a heavy telescope like a Celestron C9.25 onto a Baader Stronghold?

A heavy telescope like a C9.25 requires absolute clamping security to prevent slippage. The Ring-Wrench allows you to apply enough torque to the Stronghold's knobs to be confident the heavy optical tube is rigidly fixed, which can be difficult to achieve by hand alone, especially from an awkward angle.

Since it's 3D-printed, is the Baader Ring-Wrench durable enough for regular use?

Yes, the wrench is 3D-printed from a durable polymer selected by Baader Planetarium to withstand the torque required for normal operation. While lightweight, it is designed to be a robust and long-lasting tool for field use.
