What is the primary use for the Baader C-Mount/T-2 Extension Ring?

The primary use of the Baader C-Mount/T-2 Extension Ring is to connect a camera with female C-mount threads to an astronomical accessory (like a filter wheel or off-axis guider) that uses the male T-2 thread standard. It both adapts the thread type and adds a fixed amount of extension.

Which devices typically use a C-mount thread that would need this Baader Extension Ring?

C-mount threads are common on a variety of cameras outside of mainstream astronomy. This includes industrial machine-vision cameras, scientific cameras for microscopy, and some specialized high-frame-rate video cameras. This Baader adapter allows you to use these cameras on a telescope.

Can I use the Baader C-Mount/T-2 Extension Ring to connect a T-2 filter wheel to my C-mount planetary camera?

Yes, this is an ideal application. If your planetary camera has female C-mount threads and your filter wheel has a male T-2 thread on the telescope side, this Baader ring will create the necessary physical connection between them.

Does this Baader adapter change the magnification or focal length?

No, the Baader C-Mount/T-2 Extension Ring is a purely mechanical adapter with no optical elements. It does not alter the magnification or focal length of your telescope system. It only changes the physical spacing.

Is the "T-2" thread on this Baader ring the same as a standard M42 camera lens mount?

No, this is a common point of confusion. The T-2 thread is M42x0.75 (a 0.75mm thread pitch). The standard "M42" or Pentax screw mount for camera lenses is M42x1.0 (a 1.0mm thread pitch). The two are not compatible, and attempting to force them together will damage the threads.

How do I know if I need this specific Baader extension ring?

You need this Baader ring if you are trying to solve two problems at once: you must connect a female C-mount port to a male T-2 thread, AND you require a small, fixed amount of spacing to reach proper back focus. If you only need to adapt the threads without adding length, a different zero-profile adapter may be more suitable.
