What is the main purpose of the Baader M42x1 to T-2 Adapter?

Its primary function is to convert the M42x1 thread, common on Russian telescopes and lenses (like Zenit or MTO), to the international T-2 (M42x0.75) standard. This allows you to attach modern astronomy accessories that use the T-2 thread.

Can I use this Baader adapter to attach my ZWO camera to a Russian MTO lens?

Yes, this is a perfect application. Most ZWO cameras use a female T-2 thread for connection. You would thread this adapter's M42x1 female side onto the MTO lens, which provides a male T-2 thread to securely connect your camera and its accessories.

Is the "Russian M42x1" thread the same as a standard M42 T-mount?

No, and this is a critical distinction. A standard T-mount, also known as a T-2 thread, is M42 with a 0.75mm thread pitch. The Russian standard is M42 with a 1.0mm thread pitch. The two are not interchangeable, which is why this specific adapter is necessary to bridge the gap.

How can I use the Baader M42x1/T-2 adapter for visual observing with my Russian telescope?

You can attach any T-2 threaded 1.25" eyepiece holder to the male T-2 thread of the adapter. Once the holder is installed, you can use any standard 1.25" eyepieces, Barlows, or diagonals for visual observation with your Russian optical system.

Does this Baader adapter add significant length to my optical train?

As a simple transition ring, the Baader M42x1/T-2 adapter is designed to be as thin as mechanically possible to minimize its impact on back focus. While it does add a small amount of optical path length, it is typically negligible for most visual and imaging applications.

Will this adapter work with non-Russian M42x1 threaded equipment?

Yes. While specifically designed to solve a common problem with Russian optics, this adapter will work perfectly with any device that has a male M42x1 thread and needs to be connected to a female T-2 (M42x0.75) threaded accessory.
