Available in round (31 mm, 36 mm, 50.4 mm, and 47.4 mm for the Baader FCCT system) and square (50x50 mm and 65x65 mm) formats, this filter provides a clean, high-transmission visible spectrum signal by strictly blocking unwanted ultraviolet and infrared wavelengths that cause bloated stars and soft focus in sensitive imaging systems.

    A True Luminance Filter: Blocking UV/IR for CMOS Sensors

    Modern CMOS sensors are highly sensitive to light outside the visible spectrum, particularly in the near-infrared. Without a proper cut-off filter, this IR sensitivity leads to bloated, unfocused stars and a significant loss of resolution. This filter acts as a true luminance filter, transmitting the desired visible light while completely blocking UV and IR, ensuring your refractor's color correction is maintained and stars remain sharp.

    • Standard 2" Mounted Filter: Housed in a threaded cell (M48x0.75), it can be used in any standard 2" filter wheel or drawer. However, this cell adds several millimeters to the back focus consumption.
    • Baader Unmounted UV/IR-Cut / L-Filter: By removing the housing, it consumes the minimum possible back focus. Each size needs a holder made for it – the 47.4 mm version is designed exclusively for the Baader FCCT, ensuring perfect fit, centering, and parfocality within that system – and no version can be used in standard threaded 2" filter holders.

    Is this filter only for monochrome cameras?

    It is designed primarily as a luminance (L) filter for monochrome LRGB imaging. It can also help a color CMOS camera that lacks a sufficient built-in IR-cut filter, where the missing IR blocking leads to a reddish cast and bloated stars. If your color camera already has a UV/IR-cut window in front of the sensor, adding this filter usually brings little additional benefit.
