What is the primary purpose of the Baader M72/M68 Takahashi Adapter?

The primary purpose of the Baader M72/M68 adapter is to convert the native M72 thread found on many Takahashi telescopes to the more versatile Baader M68 thread system. This allows for the connection of a wide range of Baader accessories, particularly for creating a low-profile 2" eyepiece clamp.

How do I use the Baader M72/M68 adapter to add a 2" eyepiece holder to my Takahashi FSQ-106 refractor?

To create a 2" eyepiece holder on a Takahashi refractor like the FSQ-106, you must pair this M72/M68 adapter with the Baader 2" Ultrashort Eyepiece Clamp (Baader #2458196). The adapter threads onto your telescope's M72 port, and the Ultrashort clamp then threads into the adapter's M68 port, resulting in a very compact and rigid visual back.

What do I need to connect the Baader M72/M68 adapter to a Takahashi Mewlon reflector?

For use with a Takahashi Mewlon reflector, this M72/M68 adapter is not a standalone solution. You will also need the Baader auxiliary adapter (#2558231). This combination creates the correct spacing and connection to securely attach M68-threaded accessories to the Mewlon's rear port.

Why is a "short optical path" important when using this Baader adapter on my Takahashi?

A short optical path is critical because most telescopes have a limited amount of back focus. By using a compact adapter combination like this one, you consume the minimum possible length in your optical train. This leaves more back focus available for essential accessories like 2" Star Diagonals, Filter Wheels, Off-Axis Guiders (OAGs), and Field Flatteners or Reducers.

What is the Baader M68 system that this adapter connects to?

The Baader M68 system is a family of threaded adapters, extension tubes, and accessories built around the M68x1mm thread standard. It is designed to provide a large, rigid, and non-vignetting connection for full-frame sensors and heavy imaging equipment, acting as a robust backbone for a custom imaging train.

Is the Baader M72/M68 adapter a standalone solution for my Takahashi telescope?

No, it is not. This adapter's purpose is to convert one thread standard (M72) to another (M68). To be functional, it must be paired with other components, such as the Baader 2" Ultrashort Eyepiece Clamp for refractors or an auxiliary adapter for Mewlon reflectors.
