What is the purpose of the Lunt LS50C Double Stack Module?

The Lunt LS50C is an external etalon filter designed specifically for the Lunt LS50THa 50mm solar telescope. Its purpose is to "double stack" the system by adding a second filter, which narrows the final bandpass and dramatically increases the contrast of features on the Sun's chromosphere, such as filaments, prominences, and plage.

How do I install the LS50C on my LS50THa telescope?

Installation is simple and requires no tools. The LS50C Double Stack Module threads directly onto the front of your existing LS50THa telescope's objective lens cell. Simply unthread the dew shield/sun shade, thread the LS50C on until it is snug, and then re-attach the dew shield to the front of the LS50C.

What specific visual improvements can I expect with the LS50C Double Stack Module on the Sun's surface?

You will see a significant increase in surface detail. Vague textures seen in a single-stack view will resolve into distinct structures. With the LS50C module, you can expect to see: dark cores within filaments, fine details inside prominences, and clear separation of bright plage regions.

Is the Lunt LS50C a standalone solar filter?

No, it is not. This is critically important for safety. The LS50C is an etalon filter only and must be used with a Lunt LS50THa telescope that contains a required Lunt blocking filter in the diagonal or focuser. Using the LS50C without a proper blocking filter will not protect your eyes and will result in permanent blindness.

Will adding the LS50C make my LS50THa setup heavy or hard to balance?

No. The LS50C is designed to be compact and lightweight specifically to preserve the portability of the LS50THa system. While it adds a small amount of weight to the front of the telescope, the total system remains manageable on Vixen-style mounts or even robust photo tripods, and re-balancing is typically straightforward.

Does the Lunt LS50C work with any other Lunt telescopes?

This module, the LS50C, is made specifically for the Lunt LS50THa 50mm dedicated solar telescope series. It is not designed to be compatible with other Lunt telescope models or solar filters from other brands.
