What telescopes are compatible with the Lunt 4" V-Series Dovetail Bar?

This dovetail bar is compatible with any telescope that uses tube rings or a clamshell with standard 1/4-20 mounting threads. It is specifically designed to be a perfect match for Lunt's line of solar telescopes and will fit any mount equipped with a Vixen-style (V-style) saddle.

When should I choose the Lunt 4" dovetail bar instead of the 6" or 12" versions?

The 4" Lunt dovetail bar is the best choice for highly portable, lightweight setups where minimizing bulk is a priority. It's ideal for small refractors or dedicated solar telescopes like the Lunt LS40THa or LS50THa. If your setup is heavy or long, or if you plan to add accessories, a longer 6" or 12" bar will provide a much greater range of adjustment for achieving proper balance.

Is the Lunt 4" V-Series Dovetail Bar long enough for my Lunt LS50THa solar telescope with a camera?

For the Lunt LS50THa alone, the 4" bar is an excellent, compact fit. However, adding a camera and other imaging accessories adds weight to the back of the telescope. While you may be able to achieve balance, a 6" bar would offer more flexibility to slide the telescope forward in the mount saddle, making the balancing process easier.

Can I use the Lunt 4" dovetail bar to mount a guide scope on top of my main telescope?

Yes. If your main telescope's tube rings have standard 1/4-20 threaded holes on top, you can attach this 4" bar to them. This creates a solid Vixen-style platform for mounting a guide scope or other accessory that uses a Vixen-style foot or saddle.

What is a "Vixen-style" dovetail bar?

Vixen-style refers to a de-facto industry standard for mounting telescopes. The bar has a specific width and a 45-degree angled profile that fits into a corresponding Vixen-style saddle clamp on a telescope mount. It is the most common mounting system for small to medium-sized amateur telescopes.

What material is the Lunt 4" V-Series Dovetail Bar made from?

The Lunt dovetail bar is machined from solid aluminum for a combination of strength and low weight. It features a black anodized finish, which protects the metal from corrosion and provides a durable, scratch-resistant surface.
