Why do I need the Half Pier Assembly for my NYX-88 mount?
If you use a telescope with a longer optical tube, such as a refractor, the Half Pier Assembly is essential to prevent the telescope or attached camera from hitting the tripod legs as it tracks or slews past the meridian. The 18 cm (7") of added height provides the necessary clearance for safe operation.
Is this Half Pier Assembly compatible with other mounts or tripods?
This assembly is specifically designed and machined to create a secure connection between the Pegasus Astro NYX-88 mount and a standard EQ6-style steel tripod. It is not intended for use with other mount or tripod combinations.
How does the NYX-88 Half Pier Assembly attach to the EQ6 tripod?
The assembly includes all necessary adapters to connect to the top of the EQ6 tripod. The pier is secured using the 3 included standoff rods, which create a rigid, triangular support structure between the pier's base and the mount adapter plate.
My imaging setup is heavy. Is the 3-rod system stable enough?
The 3-rod configuration is engineered to be very stable for typical payloads. However, for maximum rigidity, especially with very heavy or long optical tubes, the design allows for expansion. You can install up to 6 standoff rods to further increase the stability of the entire system.
Will adding the NYX-88 Half Pier Assembly affect my polar alignment?
The pier extension is a rigid mechanical adapter and does not directly affect the polar alignment process of the NYX-88 mount. You will perform your polar alignment routine as usual after the mount and pier are fully assembled on the tripod.
Can I leave the Half Pier Assembly attached to my EQ6 tripod for transport?
Yes, the pier can remain attached to the tripod for convenience. However, it will increase the overall height and change the balance of the tripod when folded. Always remove the mount and telescope before moving the setup.
