When should I replace the Pulley & Timing Belt on my Pegasus Motor Focus Kit?

You should consider replacing the set if you notice inconsistent focus results, hear clicking or slipping sounds from the motor during operation, or visually inspect the belt and see signs of cracking, stretching, or missing teeth. It's a key maintenance part for ensuring long-term focusing accuracy.

Is this Pulley & Timing Belt compatible with all Pegasus Astro focus motors?

Yes, this set is designed as the universal replacement for the standard Pegasus Astro Motor Focus Kit. It ensures compatibility and restores original functionality without issue.

What are the symptoms of a worn timing belt on a Pegasus Motor Focus Kit?

A worn belt may cause your autofocus V-curves to become less sharp or repeatable. You might also find that the focuser's position drifts or fails to return to the same point accurately. Visually, the belt may appear frayed or loose.

Does installing this Pulley & Timing Belt require special tools?

Installation is straightforward and typically only requires the small hex key that was included with your original motor focus kit to loosen the set screw on the pulley. No specialized tools are necessary.

Will this replacement Pulley & Timing Belt fix my autofocus problems?

If your autofocus issues are caused by mechanical slippage between the motor and the focuser, then this kit will likely solve the problem. It corrects issues like backlash and inconsistent movement, which are common sources of failure for autofocus routines when imaging planets like Jupiter or faint deep-sky objects like the Andromeda Galaxy (M31).

How do I ensure the correct tension on the new timing belt for my Pegasus focuser?

When installing on your telescope, such as a refractor or SCT, the belt should be taut enough that it doesn't skip teeth under load, but not so tight that it strains the motor or focuser shaft. A good rule of thumb is to allow for a very small amount of deflection (a few millimeters) when pressing lightly on the belt midway between the two pulleys.
