Why can't I use the GIOTTO 560 with my large refractor telescope?

The GIOTTO 560 has a central un-illuminated area designed to accommodate the secondary mirror shadow in reflector telescopes like SCTs, Newtonians, and RCs. Because refractors have no central obstruction, this un-illuminated zone would appear as a large dark circle in your flat frames, making them unusable.

How do I control the GIOTTO 560 without a computer?

The GIOTTO 560 features built-in WiFi connectivity. You can connect your smartphone or tablet directly to the GIOTTO's WiFi network and use the web-based Virtual HandPad to turn the light on/off, precisely adjust brightness, and save your settings for different filters.

What is the optional ALTO motor and why would I need it for the GIOTTO 560?

The ALTO motor is an optional accessory that attaches to the GIOTTO 560, turning it into a remotely controlled, motorized telescope cap. This is essential for remote observatories or any automated setup, as it allows you to open your telescope to start imaging and close it to take flat frames without physically touching the equipment.

Does the GIOTTO 560 work with software other than PrimaLuceLab's PLAY?

Yes. While it integrates seamlessly with PLAY, the GIOTTO 560 also comes with a dedicated ASCOM driver. This allows it to be controlled by any ASCOM-compliant astrophotography software on a Windows computer, such as N.I.N.A. or Sequence Generator Pro.

How would I power the GIOTTO 560 for my 20-inch f/4 Dobsonian at a dark site?

The GIOTTO 560 runs on a standard 12V DC power source, the same type used by most telescope mounts and cameras. You can power it from a portable 12V battery pack or power tank, making it fully compatible with field setups away from mains power.

Can the GIOTTO 560 automate flat frames for my 16-inch Ritchey-Chrétien in my backyard observatory?

Absolutely. A 16-inch RC is an ideal telescope for the GIOTTO 560. By pairing it with the optional ALTO motor and connecting it to your observatory computer via USB or WiFi, you can fully automate the flat-taking process. Your imaging software can command the ALTO to close the GIOTTO over the telescope aperture and then control the GIOTTO's brightness to capture flats for each filter at the end of your imaging session.
