What is the primary function of the QHYCCD Adapter Kit - Combo A3?

The QHYCCD Adapter Kit - Combo A3 physically connects a QHYCCD camera with female M54 threads to a Nikon F-mount photographic lens. This allows you to use high-quality camera lenses for wide-field astrophotography with your sensitive, cooled astronomy camera.

Which cameras are compatible with the QHYCCD Adapter Kit - Combo A3?

This adapter is designed for QHYCCD cameras that feature a female M54 (M54x0.75) threaded interface for connecting to the optical train. This is a common standard on many of their cooled CMOS models.

Can I use the QHYCCD Adapter Kit - Combo A3 to control my lens's autofocus?

No. The Combo A3 adapter is a mechanical-only connection. It does not transmit electronic signals, so features like autofocus and electronic aperture control are not supported. Focusing and aperture must be adjusted manually on the lens itself.

Why would I use the QHYCCD Adapter Kit - Combo A3 to image the North American Nebula (NGC 7000)?

To capture large targets like the North American Nebula (NGC 7000), you need a very wide field of view. The Combo A3 adapter lets you use a fast, high-quality Nikon telephoto lens (e.g., 200mm or 300mm) with your sensitive astronomy camera, allowing you to frame the entire nebula complex in a single shot.

How would the QHYCCD Adapter Kit - Combo A3 help image the Rho Ophiuchi cloud complex?

The Rho Ophiuchi region is a sprawling complex of dark and reflection nebulae that benefits from a wide perspective. Using the Combo A3 adapter with a prime lens, such as a 50mm or 85mm Nikon lens, allows for deep, wide-field exposures that can capture the full extent and intricate detail of this famous stellar nursery.

Does the QHYCCD Adapter Kit - Combo A3 set the correct back focus for my Nikon lens?

This adapter provides a fixed optical depth designed to place the camera sensor at the correct distance for a standard Nikon F-mount lens to reach infinity focus. Final, precise focus is always achieved by manually adjusting the focus ring on the lens itself.
