What is the purpose of the QHYCCD Adapter Kit - Combo D3?

The QHYCCD Adapter Kit - Combo D3 is designed to connect specific QHYCCD cameras to other imaging accessories (like filter wheels or off-axis guiders) and to a telescope's focuser. Its primary functions are to establish a secure, tilt-free connection and to set the precise back focus distance required by optical correctors.

How do I know if the Combo D3 kit is correct for my QHYCCD camera?

QHYCCD produces different adapter kits for its wide range of cameras and accessories. To verify if the Combo D3 is the correct kit for your specific setup (e.g., your QHY268M camera and QHYCFW3 filter wheel), it is essential to consult the official mechanical connection diagrams provided by QHYCCD. These charts illustrate the exact adapters needed for various equipment combinations.

Why should I use the QHYCCD Adapter Kit - Combo D3 instead of generic adapters?

While generic adapters can sometimes connect components, they often fail to provide the exact back focus spacing required for sharp images. Furthermore, the QHYCCD Combo D3 kit ensures a perfect mechanical fit with tight tolerances, creating a rigid, threaded train that minimizes tilt and flexure, which are common problems with mix-and-match solutions.

Will the QHYCCD Adapter Kit - Combo D3 work with accessories from other brands?

This kit is specifically designed for the threads, body depths, and spacing requirements of QHYCCD products. While some components may share common threads (like M54 or M48), compatibility with third-party accessories is not guaranteed and may result in incorrect spacing or insecure connections.

Does the Combo D3 kit allow for filter installation?

The Combo D3 kit is designed to integrate with other components in the imaging train, which may include a filter wheel or filter drawer. The kit itself consists of spacing and conversion adapters; it does not hold filters directly. It provides the correct spacing to accommodate a filter wheel while maintaining the overall back focus.

I use an off-axis guider with my QHYCCD camera. Is the Combo D3 kit compatible?

The Combo D3 kit is part of a modular system. You would need to check the QHYCCD connection diagrams to see if this specific kit is part of the recommended solution for your camera and the QHY Off-Axis Guider (OAG). Different OAG models and camera combinations require different adapter configurations to place both the main sensor and the guide sensor in focus.
