Which version of the QHY6060 is right for me, FSI or BSI?

The choice depends on your primary application. The Front-Side Illuminated (FSI) version has a specified full well capacity of 70,000 electrons, making it better for applications where dynamic range and avoiding pixel saturation are the top priorities. The Back-Side Illuminated (BSI) version will typically offer higher quantum efficiency (sensitivity), making it the preferred choice for detecting the faintest possible signals, though its final specifications are still to be determined.

What are the data storage and processing requirements for the QHY6060?

The data requirements are substantial. A single 16-bit frame from the QHY6060 is approximately 75 MB. Capturing at 4.0 FPS over USB3.0 generates 300 MB of data per second. For sustained high-speed capture, you will need a fast host computer with an NVMe SSD, significant RAM, and a robust data backup strategy. Using the dual 10-Gigabit Fiber interface is recommended for professional installations to ensure stable data transfer.

How does the QHY6060 perform on a large astrograph like a 24-inch f/6.5 reflector?

The QHY6060 is an ideal match for large, corrected optical systems. On a 24-inch (610mm) f/6.5 reflector with a focal length of 3965mm, the 10µm pixels would yield a plate scale of 0.52 arcseconds per pixel, which is excellent for resolving fine detail in galaxies like the Whirlpool Galaxy (M51) or planetary nebulae. The massive 61.34mm sensor would cover a 53 x 53 arcminute field of view, capturing the entire Andromeda Galaxy (M31) in a single frame.

Does the QHY6060's electronic rolling shutter affect scientific measurements?

For most deep-sky imaging of static objects, an electronic rolling shutter has no negative impact. However, for applications involving very short exposures of rapidly changing targets, like high-speed photometry of variable stars or observing fast-moving satellites, a rolling shutter can introduce artifacts. For these specific use cases, a camera with a global shutter might be more appropriate. The QHY6060's high frame rate and sync ports can help mitigate some of these effects in certain scenarios.

What is the purpose of the 2GB DDR3 buffer in the QHY6060?

The 2GB DDR3 buffer is a critical component for reliable imaging. It acts as a temporary high-speed storage space on the camera itself. When you take an image, the data is read from the sensor and immediately stored in this buffer before being sent to the computer. This prevents data loss if your computer's USB bus is momentarily busy or experiences a slight delay, ensuring that no frames are dropped during a long or high-speed imaging sequence.

Can I use the QHY6060 for asteroid or supernova surveys?

Absolutely. The QHY6060 is exceptionally well-suited for survey work. Its combination of a very large field of view, high resolution, and excellent sensitivity allows you to cover vast areas of the sky efficiently. A robotic telescope equipped with this camera could repeatedly image large patches of the sky, enabling automated software to perform blink comparison to discover new asteroids or transient events like supernovae.
