This power supply provides the two critical functions for operating spectral lamps: high-voltage ignition and stable current regulation. The maximum 310 V output is sufficient to excite gases that require a high ignition voltage, such as Thorium (>230V), while also easily handling lamps like Neon which ignite around 60V. Once the gas is excited, you can precisely dial in the operating current between 1 mA and 35 mA to achieve a stable, consistent light source for your calibration frames, with a built-in power limitation to reduce the risk of damaging the lamp.
Designed for versatility, this unit can power nearly any gas lamp used in amateur and research spectroscopy. It is the standard power source for hollow cathode lamps (HCL) like Thorium-Argon used with the eShel and Whoopshel spectrographs, and also for the Neon or Argon-Neon lamps used with the LISA, Lhires III, and UVEX spectrographs. Note that the required 12V DC power brick and specific output cables for your lamp are sold separately.
