What is the primary advantage of the Paramount Taurus 500/600 Pedestal over a standard pier?

The key advantage is its design that lowers the center of mass. By keeping the heavy fork mount closer to the ground, the pedestal creates a more stable system that is less prone to vibrations from wind or other sources compared to a taller pier, which can act as a longer lever.

How much does the Software Bisque Paramount Taurus Pedestal weigh?

The pedestal weighs 90 lbs. This significant mass is intentional, contributing directly to its ability to damp vibrations and provide a solid foundation for your imaging setup.

Is the Paramount Taurus Pedestal compatible with mounts other than the Taurus 500, 600, or 700?

No, this pedestal is specifically engineered for the Software Bisque Paramount Taurus 500, 600, and 700 fork mounts. The bolt pattern and structural design are matched to these models and are not intended for use with other mounts.

I am installing a Paramount Taurus 600 in a roll-off observatory. Is the 90 lb pedestal sufficient to damp vibrations?

Yes. The 90 lb weight and wide 20 x 20 inch footprint are designed precisely for this scenario. When properly anchored to a concrete floor, the pedestal provides an extremely stable base that effectively isolates the telescope from vibrations caused by movement within the observatory.

My observatory for the Taurus 500 is subject to wind. How does the pedestal's design help?

The low-profile design is a major benefit in windy conditions. By keeping the entire telescope and mount assembly lower to the ground, the Paramount Taurus Pedestal reduces the "moment arm," making the system far less susceptible to wind-induced oscillations that can ruin long exposures.

What are the dimensions of the Software Bisque Paramount Taurus Pedestal?

The pedestal has a footprint of 20 x 20 inches and stands 28 inches tall. This provides a wide, rigid base without excessive height, contributing to its overall stability.
