What is the main benefit of the Feather Touch Micro on a Celestron C14 EdgeHD?

The primary benefit is the addition of dual-speed fine focusing and the elimination of image shift. The fine control allows you to make tiny, precise adjustments required for high-resolution viewing and imaging, while the superior mechanical design prevents the target from jumping in the eyepiece as you focus.

Is installing the Feather Touch Micro Focuser difficult on the C14 EdgeHD?

No, installation is straightforward for most users and can be completed with simple hand tools. The Feather Touch Micro is designed as a direct replacement for the stock focusing knob. Starlight Instruments provides detailed instructions to guide you through the process.

How does the Feather Touch Micro help with high-magnification planetary imaging on my C14 EdgeHD?

For planetary imaging of targets like Saturn or Mars, achieving critical focus is essential to capture fleeting moments of good seeing. The C14 EdgeHD has tremendous resolving power, but the stock focuser makes it nearly impossible to snap to perfect focus. The Feather Touch Micro's fine-focus knob allows you to make smooth, minute adjustments without vibrating the telescope, ensuring you can precisely focus the image on your camera sensor.

How does the Feather Touch Micro help when focusing on faint DSOs like the Whirlpool Galaxy (M51) with my C14 EdgeHD?

When focusing on faint deep-sky objects, the star images are your only guide. The stock focuser's backlash and coarseness can make it difficult to tell if you've passed the point of best focus. The Feather Touch Micro's zero-backlash mechanism lets you confidently move the focuser in and out to find the tightest possible stars, improving the overall sharpness of your long-exposure images.

Does the Feather Touch Micro eliminate the mirror flop when focusing my C14 EdgeHD?

Yes, this is one of its core design goals. By providing a much smoother and more mechanically stable interface with the telescope's focusing rod, it removes the unwanted mirror tilt (flop or shift) that is common with the factory-standard focuser assembly. This keeps your alignment and target centering consistent during focusing.

Can I attach a motor to this Feather Touch Micro focuser for automated focusing?

Yes. The Feather Touch Micro focuser is compatible with Starlight Instruments' motor systems, such as the Handy Stepper Motor (HSM20). This allows you to add fully automated, computer-controlled focusing to your C14 EdgeHD for remote or automated imaging routines.
