Is the Explore Scientific ED80 Case compatible with other 80mm telescopes?

No, this case is not recommended for other telescopes. The interior foam is specifically molded to the dimensions and contours of the Explore Scientific ED80 refractor and its accessories. Using it for other models will likely result in a poor, insecure fit.

What are the exact dimensions and weight of the Explore Scientific ED80 Case?

The case has exterior dimensions of 18" in length, 13" in width, and 8" in height. It weighs 11 pounds (5.0 kg) empty.

Does the foam in the Explore Scientific ED80 Case have space for accessories?

Yes. The molded foam interior includes fitted housings not only for the main telescope tube but also for standard accessories. This allows you to carefully organize and protect items like a diagonal, finder scope, or eyepieces alongside your telescope.

I travel to dark sky sites with my Explore Scientific ED80. Is this case durable enough for car travel?

Absolutely. The case is designed for transit. Its hard outer shell, reinforced edges, and secure clamping lock system provide excellent protection against the bumps and shifts that occur during car travel, ensuring your telescope arrives safely.

How does the 11 lb weight of the Explore Scientific ED80 Case affect portability for field use?

The 11 lb weight reflects its robust, protective construction. While heavier than a soft bag, the case is equipped with sturdy, well-placed handles for manageable transport. The security it provides for your optics during transit is the critical trade-off for its weight.

Can I put a padlock on the Explore Scientific ED80 Case?

The case features a clamping lock system for secure closure. While it does not include a padlock, these types of clamps often have integrated loops that allow for the use of a small, user-supplied padlock for additional security.
