What problem does the iEXOS-100 Azimuth Adjuster Adapter solve?

It solves the problem of imprecise azimuth adjustments during polar alignment. Standard light-duty mounts often require you to physically nudge the entire tripod to align with the celestial pole, which is difficult and inaccurate. This adapter adds a fine-adjustment mechanism, allowing for smooth, controlled movements to achieve a much more precise alignment.

Is the Azimuth Adjuster Adapter required to use the iEXOS-100 mount?

No, it is not required for the mount to function, especially for casual visual observation. However, for long-exposure astrophotography where tracking accuracy is critical, this adapter is considered an essential upgrade for achieving the necessary polar alignment precision.

Will this adapter fit my standard iEXOS-100 tripod without any changes?

No. To use this adapter with the standard Light Duty tripod included with the iEXOS-100, you must perform a modification to the tripod base. It is a direct, no-modification fit only for the Explore Scientific Twilight Medium Duty and Heavy Duty tripods.

How does this adapter improve my astrophotography with the iEXOS-100?

Better polar alignment leads to better tracking. By using the Azimuth Adjuster Adapter, you can significantly reduce periodic error and field rotation in your images. This allows you to take longer sub-exposures to capture fainter details on objects like the Orion Nebula (M42) or the Andromeda Galaxy (M31) with round, sharp stars.

I'm polar aligning my iEXOS-100 for visual use on planets. Is this adapter useful?

Yes, it's still very useful. While visual observing is more forgiving than imaging, a precise polar alignment improves the GoTo accuracy of the iEXOS-100. With a better alignment, objects like Jupiter and Saturn will be placed closer to the center of the eyepiece and will stay there longer without drifting out of the field of view.

Which tripods are a direct, drop-in fit for the Explore Scientific Azimuth Adjuster Adapter?

The adapter is designed for a direct fit, with no modifications required, on the following Explore Scientific tripods: Twilight Medium Duty Tripod, Twilight Heavy Duty Tripod.
