    This is Starlight Instruments' Variable Laser Brightness battery cap and switch, an upgrade for Howie Glatter laser collimators. It replaces the collimator's battery cap and switch so the beam brightness can be varied.

    When a dimmer beam helps

    There are two cases where a full-power beam is more than you need: the 532nm green collimator, which is overly bright for night-time collimation in most circumstances, and situations where the full beam is too bright, for which the 1mm aperture stop is supplied. Variable brightness serves the same purpose without changing the collimation procedure.
