PRIVACY POLICY

Last updated: October 6, 2026

David Astro Inc. ("David Astro", "we", "us") sells astronomy equipment through davidastro.com. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, who we share it with, how long we keep it and what your rights are. It is written to comply with the Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector (Quebec, as amended by Law 25) and the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (Canada).

  1. PERSON IN CHARGE OF THE PROTECTION OF PERSONAL INFORMATION

The person in charge of the protection of personal information at David Astro Inc. is David Brodeur. You can reach him at support@davidastro.com, by phone at 1-888-403-1965, or by mail at 690-i de Montbrun, Boucherville, QC J4B 8H2, Canada.

  1. WHAT WE COLLECT
  • Contact and order information: name, email address, phone number, billing and shipping addresses, the products you buy and your order history.
  • Payment information: payments are processed by Shopify Payments, PayPal and Affirm. We never see or store your full card number. If you choose Affirm financing, Affirm collects the information it needs to approve your loan under its own privacy policy.
  • Customer service messages: emails and messages you send us, and the information in them.
  • Account information, if you create an account: your login and preferences.
  • Browsing information: IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed and how you reached our site. Information used for analytics or advertising is only collected if you accept those cookies.

We do not collect sensitive information such as health information, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 14.

  1. WHY WE USE IT
  • To process, ship and support your orders, including returns and warranty claims.
  • To manage our inventory and keep our accounting and tax records.
  • To answer your questions and provide customer service.
  • To prevent fraud and keep our site secure.
  • With your consent: to send you our newsletter and promotions, to measure how our site is used, and to measure and improve our advertising.

We only use your information for these purposes. If we want to use it for another purpose, we will ask for your consent first, unless the law allows otherwise.

  1. COOKIES AND SIMILAR TECHNOLOGIES

Cookies that are needed for the site to work (cart, checkout, security) are always active. Cookies used for analytics and advertising, including those of Google and Meta, are turned off by default and are only activated if you accept them in our cookie banner. You can change your choice at any time using the cookie settings link at the bottom of every page.

  1. ADVERTISING (GOOGLE AND META)

We advertise on Google and on Meta (Facebook and Instagram). If you have accepted advertising cookies, their tags record visits and purchases on our site so we can measure the results of our ads and show ads to people who are likely to be interested.

When you place an order, and only if you have accepted advertising cookies, we may also send Google and Meta your email address and phone number in an irreversible coded form (SHA-256 hash). They compare this code with their own accounts to tell us how many sales our ads produced. They receive the code, not your information in readable form, and report to us in aggregate only. See how Google uses this information at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and Meta's privacy policy at https://www.facebook.com/privacy/policy.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not make decisions about you based exclusively on automated processing.

  1. WHO WE SHARE IT WITH

We only share your information with service providers who need it to work for us, under agreements that require them to protect it and use it only for our purposes:

  • Shopify Inc.: our e-commerce platform and hosting, and the Shopify apps we use to run the store.
  • Shopify Payments, PayPal and Affirm: payment processing and, with Affirm, financing.
  • ClickShip and Freightcom, and the carriers they use (such as Canada Post, UPS and Purolator): shipping your orders.
  • OrderTime: inventory and order management.
  • Intuit QuickBooks: accounting and invoicing.
  • Gorgias: our customer service inbox.
  • Klaviyo: sending our newsletter and promotional emails, if you subscribed.
  • Anthropic (Claude): AI assistance.
  • Google LLC: business email (Google Workspace), advertising measurement and analytics.
  • Meta Platforms, Inc.: advertising measurement on Facebook and Instagram.

We may also disclose information when the law requires it, for example to tax or customs authorities.

  1. INFORMATION PROCESSED OUTSIDE QUEBEC

Some of these providers store or process information outside Quebec, mainly elsewhere in Canada and in the United States. Before sharing information outside Quebec, we assess whether it will receive adequate protection, and we rely on written agreements with each provider. Information stored outside Quebec may be accessible to authorities under the laws of that place.

  1. HOW LONG WE KEEP IT

We keep order, invoice and accounting records for as long as we need them for accounting, tax, warranty and legal purposes, and in any case for at least 6 years after the end of the fiscal year they relate to, as required by Canadian and Quebec tax law.

We keep customer service messages for as long as they are useful to support your orders, warranty claims and returns, and marketing preferences until you unsubscribe.

  1. HOW WE PROTECT IT

Our site uses encrypted (HTTPS) connections. Access to your information is limited to the people at David Astro who need it for their work, and our providers apply industry-standard security. If a confidentiality incident creates a risk of serious injury, we will notify you and the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec as required by law.

  1. YOUR RIGHTS

You can, at any time:

  • ask whether we hold information about you and get a copy of it;
  • ask us to correct information that is inaccurate, incomplete or out of date;
  • withdraw your consent to marketing, analytics or advertising (unsubscribe link in our emails, cookie settings on our site);
  • ask us to stop sharing or to delete your information, or to de-index it, where the law allows;
  • receive the information you gave us in a structured, commonly used technological format.

Send your request to David Brodeur at support@davidastro.com or 1-888-403-1965. We will answer within 30 days, free of charge. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can file a complaint with the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec (https://www.cai.gouv.qc.ca) or, outside Quebec, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (https://www.priv.gc.ca).

We handle every privacy request or complaint confidentially. We acknowledge it promptly and send you a written answer within 30 days.

  1. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

We will post any change on this page with a new "Last updated" date. If a change affects how we use information we already hold, we will tell you by email or on our site before it applies, and ask for your consent where required.
