Discontinued Products

Products no longer in production. This collection exists as a reference — for identifying what you own, checking what a discontinued model was compatible with, and finding out whether parts and service are still available. Being discontinued does not mean unsupported, and a great deal of excellent astronomy equipment is no longer made.

If you own something listed here and need a part, an adapter or a repair, contact us. We can frequently source service parts through dealer channels that are not publicly listed.

Owning Discontinued Equipment

Astronomy equipment has a long service life, and a discontinued model is often mechanically identical to something still in production.

  • Parts availability: Manufacturers often maintain service stock well beyond a product's sales life and supply it to authorized dealers on request.
  • Common failure parts: Thumbscrews, springs, gears and cables are the items that typically fail, and many are shared across product generations.
  • Adapters and compatibility: Older equipment frequently uses the same thread standards as current products, so modern accessories often fit.
  • Repair rather than replacement: Mechanical assemblies can often be repaired or refurbished in-house even when a factory part no longer exists.
  • Used market: Discontinued models remain available second hand, and many are excellent value for their capability.
  • Successor identification: If a repair is not economic, we can identify the current model that replaced yours and what changed.

Why Choose David Astro for Discontinued Equipment Support

Being an authorized dealer matters most for products that are no longer sold.

  • Dealer channel parts access: We can request service parts that never appear in public catalogues, which is often the only route to a specific component.
  • Identification from photographs: Send us a picture and we will identify the model and the part, since documentation for older equipment is frequently unavailable.
  • In-house repair: Where no part exists, we can often repair or fabricate a working solution rather than declare the equipment finished.
  • Compatibility advice: We will tell you which current accessories fit older equipment, which is more often than people expect.
  • Ships from Canada: Parts and accessories delivered domestically without duties or brokerage fees.

Discontinued Products in Canada — Frequently Asked Questions

Can I still get parts for a discontinued product?
Often yes. Manufacturers keep service stock beyond a product's sales life and supply it to dealers. Tell us the model and what you need and we will check availability.
Is old astronomy equipment still worth using?
Frequently. Optics that are cared for hold their performance for decades, and mechanically sound mounts often outperform newer budget ones. Electronics are what usually date first.
Will modern accessories fit older equipment?
More often than expected, since thread standards like M42, M48 and SCT have been stable for a long time. Tell us the equipment and we will confirm.
What if no part is available?
We can often repair the assembly or fabricate a functional replacement in-house. Where that is not economic, we will identify the current equivalent and what has changed.

Own something no longer made?

Send us a photo and the model and we will find parts or repair it. Canadian stock and in-house service.
