Filter Accessories
Filters spend most of their life being handled, stored and swapped, and every one of those moments is a chance to fingerprint a coating or drop a 36 mm piece of glass into wet grass. Cells, holders, cases and slide systems remove most of that risk. David Astro carries filter accessories in Canada, held in stock for fast domestic shipping.
Sizes and threads vary by manufacturer. Tell us your filters and wheel and we will identify what fits.

These accessories address handling and storage, which is where most filter damage actually happens.
- Filter cells and rings: Mount an unmounted filter into a threaded cell so it can be handled by the edge and screwed in without touching the glass.
- Filter cases: Individual compartments that prevent coated surfaces contacting each other, which is how most cleaning marks are acquired.
- Filter slides and holders: Quick-change mechanisms that let a filter be swapped without unthreading anything in the imaging train.
- Carriers for unmounted filters: Adapt square or unmounted round filters into wheels and drawers designed for mounted formats.
- Step rings and thread adapters: Convert between 1.25 inch, 2 inch and metric filter threads, which is often needed when moving filters between setups.
- Handling tools: Suction handles and edge grips for large unmounted filters, which are otherwise awkward to place without contact.
Why Choose David Astro for Filter Accessories
A cheap accessory that protects an expensive filter is one of the better value purchases available.
- Thread and size identified: We match cells, adapters and carriers to your specific filters and wheel rather than assuming a standard fit.
- Storage advice included: We recommend compartmented storage with desiccant, because coating damage in storage is more common than damage in use.
- Handling technique: We will explain how to place a large unmounted filter without touching its surface, which is not obvious the first time.
- Authorized dealer: Genuine products with manufacturer warranty, in Canadian stock.
- Ships from Canada: No duties or brokerage fees for Canadian buyers.
Filter Accessories in Canada — Frequently Asked Questions
- Should I buy mounted or unmounted filters?
- Mounted are far easier to handle and thread in. Unmounted maximize clear aperture for large sensors, which sometimes matters enough to accept the handling difficulty.
- How should I store filters?
- In individual compartments so surfaces cannot touch, in a dry place with desiccant. Stacked filters and humid storage account for most of the cleaning marks we see.
- Can I use unmounted filters in a standard wheel?
- Only with a compatible carrier, and only if the wheel is designed to accept one. Tell us the wheel model and filter format and we will confirm.
- How do I handle a large filter safely?
- By the edges only, or with a suction handle for larger unmounted glass. Place it into a cell first rather than handling it repeatedly during installation.
