  • EAGLE-compatible power Y cable for 3A port

This EAGLE-compatible power Y cable expands a single 3A 12V output port on your PrimaLuceLab EAGLE into two, allowing you to power multiple devices without occupying another port. The cable provides a total shared current of 3A and features a secure, threaded screw-on connector to prevent accidental power loss during an imaging session.

Turn One 3A EAGLE Port Into Two 12V Outputs

Free up valuable power ports on your EAGLE control unit. This Y-cable is specifically designed to plug into one of the 3A-rated outputs, instantly providing two 12V connections for your accessories. This is ideal for powering a mount and a focuser, or other combinations of low-draw equipment, from a single source.

It's important to note that the total current is shared across both outputs. The cable delivers a maximum combined total of 3A, not 3A per device. You must ensure the combined power draw of the two connected devices does not exceed this 3A limit.

    Secure Screw-On Connection

Designed for reliability in the field, the cable's input connector threads directly onto the EAGLE's 3A port, creating a solid, vibration-proof connection that won't pull out accidentally as your telescope slews.

Power Mounts and Focusers with EAGLE-Compatible Cables

This cable ends in two EAGLE 3A-style power out connectors, so you plug in the EAGLE-compatible 3A cable each device needs, such as the 5.5 - 2.1 or 5.5 - 2.5 cable. This lets you power two devices from a single 3A port of the EAGLE.

    • 5.5 - 2.1 cable for 3A port (PL1000042): Powers many popular mounts, including the SkyWatcher EQ6, HEQ5, and EQ5 series.
    • 5.5 - 2.5 cable for 3A port (PL1000044): Powers PrimaLuceLab accessories like ESATTO robotic focusers and SESTO SENSO focusing motors.

    Choosing Between the 3A and 8A Y-Cable

PrimaLuceLab offers two versions of this cable, and selecting the right one is critical for device safety and performance. This 3A Y-cable is intended for lower-power devices.

For high-consumption equipment like large cooled CMOS/CCD cameras or dew heaters, you must use the separate 8A Y-cable connected to one of the EAGLE's 8A-rated ports. Attempting to power a high-draw device from a 3A port can lead to intermittent power loss or damage to your equipment.

  • How much current can the EAGLE 3A Y-cable provide to each device?

The cable provides a total shared current of 3A. This means the combined power draw of the two devices you connect must not exceed 3A. It does not provide 3A to each device simultaneously.

What kind of connector does this 3A Y-cable use to attach to the EAGLE?

It uses a threaded, screw-on connector designed specifically for the 3A ports on the PrimaLuceLab EAGLE. This ensures a secure, stable connection that cannot be accidentally disconnected during operation.

Can I use this EAGLE 3A Y-cable to power my SkyWatcher HEQ5 mount and my ESATTO focuser?

Yes, this is an excellent use case for this cable. Plug the EAGLE-compatible 5.5 - 2.1 cable (mount) and 5.5 - 2.5 cable (ESATTO) for 3A port into the two outputs of the Y-cable. The combined power draw of an HEQ5 (during normal tracking) and an ESATTO focuser is well within the 3A limit of the cable.

Will this 3A Y-cable power my cooled astronomy camera?

No. Most thermoelectric cooling systems in astronomy cameras draw more than 3A, especially at high power. You should connect your cooled camera directly to one of the EAGLE's dedicated 8A ports to ensure it receives sufficient, stable power.

What's the difference between the PrimaLuceLab 3A and 8A Y-cables?

The primary difference is the port they connect to and the total current they can handle. This 3A Y-cable is for the lower-power, threaded 3A ports. The 8A Y-cable is designed for the higher-power 8A ports and is necessary for devices like large mounts, cooled cameras, or multiple dew heaters.
